Mermaid is a handy tool, very customisable, mostly easy to apply styles to.

Aye, I do think that this would be a welcome addition. It would streamline some graphics that are usually done by adding in image links

Putting my user hat on:
As a player, I've included timelines in several PC background documents that I've put together
As a DM, I've wished for a flowchart for my NPC documents, life up to meeting the party => party helps? Y/N => Y: becomes a priest || N: becomes a bartender
I also found a node map was useful for the mystery section of a campaign to identify vital information that lacked enough clues leading to it

Something that I've started doing is writing documents for major NPCs and including a node map of their important relationships - here's an example of Duke Thalamra Vanthumpur of my Descent Into Avernus campaign
As the NPC has developed, new relationships have arisen - for example, in the campaign as written, Thalamra has no relationship with Nebra, but as my campaign has played out, Thalamra has developed into her secret mentor, attempting to sway her from the Cult of Bhaal to the Cult of Zariel - so now my Nebra knows the secret, that Thavius Kreeg fled Elturel prior to it's fall.
