I've been keeping track of how many mons I see and how far apart the shinies are. As of the batch that came with this Persian, I'd seen 573 Pokemon. That's 181 'mons since Mankey at no. 392, which is probably somewhere around normal odds.

Went and tweaked some math in my tracking bit. Not counting the starter Squirtle (shiny) and the other 4 tutorial spawns (shiny-locked), we have:
[format: Pokemon name, number of mons seen as of the sleep study that included that shiny, number of 'mons between this one and the last shiny.]
Rattata, no. 13, 13!
Bulbasaur, no. 172, 159 later.
Riolu, no. 350, 191 later.
Rattata, no. 372, 22 later.

Which averages out to 1 shiny per 96 spawns. This is probably rather abnormally high, considering I'd bet odds are somewhere near twice that.

Sidenote: next time we have someone join here with a shiny starter, the folks who like to poke at how the game works are curious exactly how Ing Magnet works when you have only 2 ingredients unlocked. Specifically, Ing Magnet normally gets 3 different types of ing, so they're curious if this gives you, say, apples twice and milk once, or half apples and half milk. I wasn't paying close enough attention to speak to that myself, but someone who's playing with just a starter and no other ing unlocks would probably be able to see a few ing magnet procs before unlocking honey.

Y'know what's a good change for us? This thing with Pokemon that are caught already evolved having their inventories improved.

Catching evolved shinies just got less of a side of "well that's a shame", since it's only the main skill level they're missing out on. Catching a full entire Tyranitar is now exremely cool, because who cares about a couple levels less of energy boost when you have a wild shiny Tyranitar.

I'm now rather tempted to actually use this fully evolved shiny Blastoise I caught on my main. It's mono milk, HSS/STS/IFM, and the only thing that makes me hesitate is it has a SOH down nature. And that my current mono milk Blastoise has HB.

You have to manually delete "all" the app data from the phone config instead of uninstalling it, no way around it. Then the fastest way really is using 3 emulators on a pc since there is a lot of loading screens, AND if you value your finger i recommend setting a simple autoclicker to just hover your mouse around to skip the trillion neroly dialogues. Finally i recommend not even checking the starter stats since the whole feeding and catching tutorial is like 2 extra minutes per reroll, so just go to the next reroll right after you see the starter isn't shiny

So, first off, just to be sure you know: the Pikachu can't be shiny, you're aiming for the fire/water/grass starter.

What I did is borrow a spare phone so I could reset on two at once. I'd go through all the setup, not bothering to put in my actual birthdate, just to say that I was born in some year that puts me over 18 (just in case), get far enough to look at the tutorial sleep results, then close the apps, delete them, reinstall them, and continue. Took me about 4-5min per reset.

If you get annoyed by reading the same thing over and over again, set your language to one you can't understand. Then when you're clicking past all the dialogue screens, you don't have to read them, you just see letters.

I got the app on my pc on a tablet emulator and then I created a macro that would go through all the tutorial until the part where you see the starter. Then, I would manually check if the starter is shiny and if not would uninstall the game and restart the macro.

I also very strongly recommend watching TV, listening to an audiobook, being on a voice call with friends, or something else, since otherwise you're gonna go a bit insane.

You're welcome, glad to help. I figured out when I was angrily Googling while swearing a bit that a lot of what's happening is people saying "my starter was shiny" to mean "my tutorial sleep starter was shiny", not "my actual starter, the Pikachu, was shiny". The fact that nobody's found a shiny Pika while resetting for a god one, and nobody's ever posted a shiny starter Pika on this server during the entire course of the game, is a pretty dang big hint.

My main is on OGPP for Mawile, Sprigatito, and hopefully Grubbins, which is an odd place to be this week due to me having three BFS Raichus I normally use there. I’m going for the apple acid salad and seeing how it stacks up against berry mice.

I think it’s now my worst week as well as of me unlocking tomatoes, but I wasn’t about to pass up the favored berry that my two best berrymons get.

So I have my Blastoise and Venusaur for Ing Magnet, my two Raticates, and my Lucario on the team this week.

My Mankey would actually get about as much strength as the Lucario, but leveling the Lucario unlocks potatoes for Dream Eater Curry, so that might be my higher priority at the moment. Then again, evolving this Mankey would give me a fighting-type berrymon…

Oo, this week’s incense reward is a Larvitar. Maybe I’ll get to M1 to claim that and then swap in a couple mons to work on leveling. I’m not fussed about getting the highest strength possible, I just need to get to max spawns and this incense.

Oof. Or maybe I’ll get to M3 first, since apparently that’s when Mawile starts spawning. I’m not going to be trying to catch any to level FL, but while they have boosted spawns I may as well try to see a couple for the tiny chance of a shiny.

South-ish Texas for Green Jays (not found yet), Groove-billed Ani, and Ferrulginous Pygmy Owl breeding site. Someone told me there’s that flamingo in decent driving range, and also a bird called a Cattle Tyrant, a type of flycatcher, that’s the only one of its kind ever recorded north of Panama. It got up here in 2023 and now lives by an oyster bar, gorging on the flies around said bar’s dumpster. Apparently the guys who deliver the nearby pizza place’s mesquite wood also throw all the bugs from the wood to the flycatcher.

This is my same one, I just evolved it.

I took a picture to show the sparkly effect that plays when it gets shards instead of ingredients. It's gotten the big batch of shards for me a couple times now, which is nice with this event coming up.

this just in Larvitar has a 2/11 shiny rate, that's totally how that works

BFS Pupitar handy on Taupe. Might actually not evolve this one fully ever, then, because I don't need dark berries for Snowdrop- I have two Raticates.

Okay, so my shinies have been Pokemon sightings number: 13, 172, 350, 372, 379, 568, 697, 736, 766, and 819. The last three have each been within ~50 sightings of the prior shiny.

This continues to be a statistically unlikely number of shinies.
