Env: Win11-64, MC 1.21.8
Mode: Creative mode (no tool active)
Description: When opening a double chest with data facing: west, type right tthe chest is modified (in savefile, persistent after game restart) with data facing: north, type: right and disconnects from the type: left chest.
Steps to reproduce: In creative, with mod axiom only, load hermitcraft hc7 world, go to the wool shop (location 168, 80, 0), open chest 168,80,-1, the chest will rotate and break. (other chests have the same behavior, type left appear to not have the issue?)

Are you clicking on the chest with an open fist while tinker is enabled

yes I am, so that explains some of it, but why is the tinker tool not modifying the 'back' of the double chest in that mode

It only rotates the one that you click on

#

It's mainly intended for single chests

I get that part sorry for being unclear, I mean it rotates only the closest chest of the double chest if clicked, it doesn't rotate the farthest if the farthest is clicked, and it will rotate only once, not rotate with each click (e.g., if you click 4 times it should return to 'normal', but additional tinker clicking doesn't update anymore)

It does rotate the farthest if clicked

You just have to not click the frontside
