This one has a 16:9 aspect ratio, and forcing it to stretch via patch wrecked the cursor, rendering the menu options unselectable.

#

If someone else manages to figure it out, I'm happy to add it. Smaller text is illegible on rg40xxh.

No takers?

#

Eh it'll run anyway, standard gm port.

<@&1216123318122577972> Picayune Dreams has gone vm!! The full game can now be played as a port. Please see the pin for details. Since the patch is large, I can't upload an attachment for it. You will need to download the port from the repository.

Changes:

  • Swap fonts used in options menus for better scaling
  • Texture repack and audio compression
  • Texture flushing when changing rooms (some slowdown for Collections menu while textures load)

Notes:

  • Sound effects are low volume compared to music. They're there, but hard to hear unless balanced with music in audio settings

The game loads and plays on rg40xxh, but I didn't test it for long. This game can get pretty crazy as playtime goes on, so it will need some dedicated hands to verify if 1GB devices will be okay.

Game is on discount on steam too 🙂

marsh maple

$3.49 USD, an excellent steal.

keen shoal
#

Indeed 🙂

#

wow this data.win is huge

marsh maple

But the soundtrack is fantastic.

how long is this patch doggokek

marsh maple

will report in 30 minutes/tomorrow

#

oh patching didn't go right...

marsh maple
#

I’m noticing some sfx don’t seem to play or play at low volume, I’ll have to see if it’s due to the compression.

Did you download with manifest or just grab from steam?

keen shoal
#

steam

marsh maple
#

The vm release is in the betas tab

keen shoal
#

no wonder

marsh maple
#

Core is yyc

Hence the manifest

weird...

Just do properties - beta then

I’ll figure out the manifest later, I don’t really want to sign up for maintaining this one every update

Yes I had the patch unzip bail unnecessarily at one point. I fixed it.

I think I need to fine-tune audio compression...

marsh maple
#

Ok, I think I have the fonts in a good spot.

marsh maple
#

Ugh, downloading old depots is broken for Picayune and they're still pushing updates. Therefore I've lost my edits progress, and I changed a TON. I'm gonna shelve it for now and wait.

languid badger
#

Damn dude. I'm really sorry. I was keeping tabs on this until you said it was ready.

marsh maple
#

It's my own fault for not writing it down like I usually do. Maybe we'll have some other improvements in a month that will serve this game better anyway.

gilded schooner
#

just curious since they slowed down a bit on patches (last was the start of april), do you still have plans to work on this port or do you think it'll end there?

#

would be more than happy to test if you end up getting it going

marsh maple
past salmon
#

Hmmmm, I need to find time try to tackle this one considering the new compression workflow, maybe the fuckton of audio could work together with texture compression on 1GB devices just fine.

keen shoal
past salmon
#

oh lord, yeah I am looking at those fonts, that could not make it even smaller lol. If I find a free day I might try to replace them

past salmon
#

with this note:

Unreleased due to problem with dumping textures. UTMT-CLI gives a segfault during this step. It may be due to memory constraints or texture size.```

and no patches etc, so at that point I dont need that
past salmon
#

ok, the texture externalization crashing is not because of ram usage, unfortunately.

past salmon
#

IT seems to be somewhat viable with a classic texture repacking, xdelta would be a bit larger, but we have worse around here. The fonts are trully terrible though

keen shoal
#

What device have you gotten it playable on?

past salmon
#

I ran it for few minutes on OGA with Arkos, memory usage was around 700MB

languid badger
#

So should we try testing with your ZIP now?

past salmon
#

I havnt done any?

#

its pointless until I (or someone else) decide to do something about the text
