Dynamate is a puzzle game invented by Björn Kalzen and Jonas Norberg, a couple of years ago i contacted them to make a port for the gp2x handheld. They provided me with 2 cpp files with the main game rules / engine and the levels, but a complete game needed to be build around it so i did that and also added a level editor. I had finished the game about 15 years ago for the gp2x and last year i created a version for the Playdate handheld. This version is port of my playdate version containing both the playdate 1 bit graphics and gp2x colored graphics. The game by default boots up in colored mode.

Game Features:

  • 30 default levels with increasing difficulty
  • Adapted numbered pieces in 1 bit mode since playdate can't display colors to make it easier to recognize them.
  • Level Editor to create your own levels to share with others
  • Autosaves progress

Playing the Game:
The aim of the game, in any level, is to clear the level of the numbered pieces in 1 bit mode or the colored pieces in color mode. Pieces can be removed in a predefined way by moving another piece into them. There are also pieces affecting the currently moving piece.

Controls

  • Dpad/joystick: Select menu's, options or levels to play. Move the selector.
  • A & Start: Confirm in menu and level selector, Holding (A) on a movable piece and pressing a direction with the Dpad will move that piece in said direction, place a level piece in level editor mode
  • B & Back: Back in menus, level selector and game
  • X: Reboot game & select next source pictures (1bit, colors 1 (default))
  • L1: Hold to select previous piece while editing a level
  • R1: Hold to select next piece while editing a level

Instructions:
Game is ready to run

Tested on:

(X) [640x480] (RG35XX Plus)
(X) [720x720] (RGB30)
(X) [Higher Res] (X55)
(X) AmberELEC (351v)
(X) JELOS (ACE, X55)

#

certainly doesnt happen on any of mine (353VS/OGA Arkos and ACE/JELOS), there it works fine.

trim tartan
#

set it up like this

#

and move them to completion

open geyser
#

will try

trim tartan
#

only does it if you do the bottom green one to the bottom blue one second. 😂

open geyser
#

i can't reproduce it, are you still using original gptk or your reworked one ?

trim tartan
#

oh god no

#

thats not usable yet

#

😄

#

even if you do the top green one to top blue one first?

#

i can do it every time

open geyser
#

yes i did that still trying to reproduce it

trim tartan
#

maybe the covid has infected my device

open geyser
#

haha no

#

can you record it ?

#

maybe easier for me todo same moves then

trim tartan
#

yeah 1 minute

open geyser
#

i know the game waits until all buttons are unpressed

trim tartan
#

i did it 5 times in a row

#

and now i try to video it, i cant do it. 😂

open geyser
#

haha

#

like to know what caused it as noone in gp2x days reported nor on playdate

#

haven't been able to reproduce either yet

trim tartan
#

i just did it again without recording... then did the exact same steps again while recording and it didnt work. 😒

open geyser
#

lol

umbral anchor
#

sounds like ghosts

trim tartan
#

i give up, lmao

open geyser
#

lol

#

and i can't reproduce it yet

trim tartan
#

fucking going crazy

open geyser
#

do you release A while the piece is moving ?

#

or keep holding it

trim tartan
#

both at this point

open geyser
#

this is on a vanilla rg35xx plus image ?

#

not that it should matter i guess

trim tartan
#

i did it on both

#

that screenshot is on my anbernic 351v

#

on amberelec 🙂

#

(that works btw)

open geyser
#

ah i see

#

very odd

#

still have not been able to reproduce it

trim tartan
#

me either lol

#

except without video

#

atleast i have screenshots of proof. 😂

open geyser
#

yeah only need to figure out how i can reproduce this lol

#

let me try rebooting the game

#

and erasing the save game

trim tartan
#

i thought i was playing the game wrong the first few times 😂

open geyser
#

haha no it must be some bug of some kind that noone ever noticed / triggered 🙂

trim tartan
#

i must be special 🥲

open geyser
#

ah

#

i'm onto something

#

reproduced it

#

and thin i know how

#

let me retry

#

yeah lol

#

if you for example do HOLD A + Right and then while holding A press UP before it reaches the blue piece it happens

#

its a bug in the game

trim tartan
#

yay

#

😄

open geyser
#

you must have been only person ever changing the direction lol

trim tartan
#

im special

open geyser
#

playdate version probably has same bug then lol

#

have to charge my playdate to test there as well

#

i'll change to WIP until i can find solution

trim tartan
#

nah fuck it

#

its playable

open geyser
#

ok

trim tartan
#

just not by special people like me, lol

open geyser
#

i can always update it later

#

once i addressed the issue

#

but need to fix it on playdate first

#

as the code is vanilla playdate code

#

i can add a warning on the readme for now

#

to not change directions while a piece is moving :x

trim tartan
#

😄

open geyser
#

can reproduce on playdate also

trim tartan
#

i really wanted a playdate

#

but they're so spendy

open geyser
#

yeah and i bought a new one from some 2nd hand site as i did not want to wait in the queue :x

#

but they went up 20$

woeful raptor
#

but then it was too much

#

with tax and shipping 350€

umbral anchor
#

open geyser
#

#
