In this homage/parody of the classic Castlevania franchise, The Transylvanian Adventures of Simon Quest follows the titular Simon Quest, who has just arrived in Transylvania only to discover his vampire hunting rival, Stan Helsing, has already slain the evil Count Dracula. In order to reclaim the glory that should be his, he journeys across Wallachia to gather what he needs to resurrect the dark count piece by piece and kick his ass himself!

Tested with the 2021 demo.

To Install:

  1. Download zip file.
  2. Unzip in ports directory
  3. Download the 2021 Bram demo from the above itch.io page.

Kick Dracula's ass, even if it means you have to resurrect him first in this homage to ClassicVanias!

Hey, I just realized that the zip file is supposed to be named simonquest.zip, since that's what I put in the SH file.

Needs updating then too 🙂

regal pelican
#

Makes sense resources are outdated considering the standard was updated recently

pure quartz
#

So, just an empty .txt file renamed to ".gitkeep"? And the APKs are from the GMloader-ports folder on the above link so I don't know exactly whose permission I need.

quick sparrow
pure quartz
#

Now with 100% .gitkeep goodness.

neon basin
#

You dont need permission for the apk, thats just an empty wrapper.

#

Only if you include game files.

pure quartz
#

I've only included game files on the ports of Harley Wilson's stuff, and iirc he gave full permission for his games.

neon basin
#

Just add the license file and youre all good

regal pelican
#

Seems to crash without producing a log file on my end, 353m/ark

pure quartz
#

For some reason I sometimes have that problem. What I do is I just go into the SH file and replace all instances of the folder name (in this case simonquest) with itself after transferring it to my device.

regal pelican
#

Strange haha, I'll give it a shot

neon basin
#

Same issue on r36s arkos, strange.

#

Renaming everything didnt help.

regal pelican
#

Yeah, no it didn't help on my end either, although I would have been shocked if it actually had lol

neon basin
#

same haha

regal pelican
#

I would wager it's either a resolution issue or an ark library issue

neon basin
#

Or theres something wrong in the .sh

#

Because it does nothing lol

regal pelican
#

Yeah, good point, I'm not familiar enough with what is typically run for gamemaker games, but it would be worth taking a look at it

pure quartz
regal pelican
#

Before

neon basin
#

Does nothing for me. Whats you device/cfw

regal pelican
#

"RGB30 running JELOS"

neon basin
#

oh sorry

#

I dont see any issue with the sh

#

weird

pure quartz
#

Well, if it crashes BEFORE the splash screen and doesn't leave a log file, that's when I alter the SH file. In fact, I actually started waiting until after copying the ports to the SD card to edit the SH file. And then that's the version of the SH file I add to the zip. But try the SH file I posted and if that doesn't work try replacing every instance of simonquest with simonquest.

neon basin
#

That shouldnt do anything😅

#

let me try this one myself, this is so strange

pure quartz
#

I can't explain it, either. @fickle carbon, have you had this issue?

neon basin
#

Okay theres def something wrong with your sh or folders

#

Because it works with my template

#

Its very slow on my rk3326 however, less than half speed. And id do away with the gptk if the game supports it. Binding is not correct as it is now.

#

x=b for example

pure quartz
#

If it runs slow, edit the settings.ini and change Fullscreen= from 0 to 1. As for the controls, go to the [Joypad] section and change B= to 32772.000000 (mapping it to the Y button on my RGB30) and change A= to 32770.000000 (mapping it to the B button on my RGB30). 32771.000000 corresponds to the X button and and 32769.000000 to the A button.

quick sparrow
#

don't do that

#

put the chmod somewhere above gptokeyb

pure quartz
#

Like this?

#

$ESUDO chmod 666 /dev/uinput

$ESUDO chmod +x "$GAMEDIR/gmloader"

$GPTOKEYB "gmloader" -c ./simonquest.gptk &

./gmloader simonquest.apk

#

So the game uses a GMS 2.2.2.302 wrapper, and the Github has four variations. Would using a different 2.2.2.302 wrapper have a quantifiable effect?

quick sparrow
pure quartz
#

Anyone else have any luck getting this running at a faster speed? If my using different 2.2.2.302 wrappers had any effect it's negligible, at best.

neon basin
#

Wrappers dont affect performance

#

You cant really optimize gms, unless its something like reducing particle amount

pure quartz
#

So what's the difference between each of the wrappers?

neon basin
#

Theyre probably from different donors, but its not necessary to have duplicates.

#

Armv7a libs should be all thats needed, at least i think so

sloooow on my rg351v amberelec -- a full 3 seconds to jump and land again in the same spot, haha
and slow everywhere -- like in parts that you might expect to be okay, like menus, dialogue boxes, etc.

pure quartz
#

So it's not just me.

fickle carbon
#

An example is SnOut port. Steam runs normal speed but the itch one runs at 1/2 speed… no idea how to correct it though sadly 🥲

#

Other than finding another version of the game

pure quartz
#

Actually I was talking about the issues with the SH file. Turned out all I needed to do is switch to Notepad++. The tl;dr is I'd edit the SH file in Wordpad, it'd get saved in a Windows format and the game wouldn't start. As for this game running at such a low speed, I'm just assuming it's too much for my device.

fickle carbon
slim belfry
#

its BRUTALLY slow even on ACE

prime geode
slim belfry
#

I havnt even bothered to get that far as it was insanely slow even during the splash screen

pure quartz
quick sparrow
#

If its on ACE it won't get any faster

#

@pure quartz for tagging its either WIP or testing

#

not both

#

It runs on amberelec but this mgiht be a case for the bin 🙂

dapper mulch
#

@pure quartz Whatcha doing with this port?

pure quartz
#

TBH, I absolutely forgot all about this one. I also have to figure out how to fix an issue I had with the Ninja Senki DX port. This one will probably have to wait, unless someone else wants to take over.

pure quartz
#

I mean, obviously I'm not outright tapping out or getting someone else to do the hard part. But I also can't stop someone from trying to port it themselves.

pure quartz
#

And here's the log that it popped out when it crashed. More or less the same thing when I tried to run another potential port (Unidentified Flying Objects: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2087610/UFO_Unidentified_Falling_Objects/)

Unidentified Falling Objects is a unique mashup of platforming and puzzle destroying gameplay. Players are dropped into the puzzle where they must dodge the falling obstacles and destroy blocks to make big combos. Many different things will fall from above, and the player must act quickly to remove them to level up and get the highest score. Com...

And it still runs like crap, even on my RGB10MAX3. I wonder if GMloader-next would get better results.

rocky olive
#

is the game have a framerate issue?

pure quartz
#

Yeah. It's pretty slow on my RGB10MAX3, just like it was on my RGB30.

rocky olive
#

even the chip on that device still get a slow framerate

#

prison city by same developer of this game is still getting slowdown
