Richard Abegg
Richard Abegg was a German chemist known for his Abegg rule, which states that the difference between the highest and lowest valences of an element is 8. This rule inspired Gilbert Lewis's research and is considered a pioneer of valence bond theory. Abegg was also a hot air balloon enthusiast and died young in a hot air balloon accident.
