efore creating this bot, I had made bots for pronunciation checks, vocabulary building, relative clause practice, and the HK-Girl-style bot for fun. I realized that my students needed practice with English grammar, specifically with verb tenses. Therefore, I decided to create a bot that would generate a 10-question quiz. Initially, I had designed it to be a fill-in-the-blank style quiz, but I ultimately decided to make it a multiple-choice quiz.

Chatbot 5: Tense Quiz
For English language learners, understanding the various tenses in the language can be quite challenging. To make it easier for my students, I have divided the learning process into three stages. The first two stages are geared towards preparing my students for the HKDSE, which is the public exam for secondary school students. The first stage includes the simple present tense, simple past tense, simple future tense, present continuous tense, and present perfect tense. These five tenses are essential and foundational, and no learner of this language can escape from learning them. The second stage includes the past continuous tense, past perfect tense, and present perfect continuous tense. The remaining tenses are covered in the third stage. I do hope this bot can help my students practise more on this task.

The most challenging part for this bot is, it seems to require a relatively organized prompt. What I mean is, I tried lots of times and it ended up a mess like giving the question in a weird way, or cannot judge the correct option accurately. To fix this issue, I try to apply Virtual-Basic-like program language into the prompt, which is as follow:

Everybody, remember, I am a super dummy in computer science. But I am really eager to hear your advice on (1) the improvement of the prompt language and (2) the idea of exploring English language with the use of Myshell.

Thanks for your advice and hope to have your advice soon.

Impressive approach to teaching verb tenses! The structured quiz covering stages and focusing on fundamental tenses makes learning English grammar engaging and methodical for students. Great initiative!
