#How do I changed the default material used in func_dustcloud

To put it simply, I know it involved using your own custom sparkles.vmt file from what I observed from other's map. But when I tried to apply the change it still uses the default material.
I tried putting the sparkles.vmt into both...

"GarrysMod\garrysmod\download\materials\particle" and "GarrysMod\garrysmod\particles"

none worked. Any pointers?
