i don't know whether the process is any different for gmod, is there not a tutorial which explains the whole process?

gmod has some sort of exe files and you just gotta run them

and turn that map file into the .gm or something

you mean gmad.exe, wwhere you drop the folder of your addon on, and get a .gma file back?
