#Lump Files with Hammer and VMFs

How do I get an existing lump file working for a .VMF?

I'm trying to use an lump file to get all the entities for an map, but I have no clue how these works and I cannot find proper documentation on any method.

I know VIDE has a tool to replace lump files in a .bsp with another lump file
