Pause plants that have been neglected a little too long instead of completely resetting them

I'm getting down on my hands and knees and begging you, if a plant is neglected by say like, an hour, and I miss it, and it triggers to the "progress to dead" state, for the love of the spire, just pause it's "progress to elder" state, don't reset the plant completely to the beginning of "progress to mature". This makes gardening a long, arduous slog.
