In the current game there are not too much voxel shapes for complex builds, straight walls, small details or corners, so I'm suggesting one possible solution:

  • Implement additional voxel shapes (procedural and rotatable) from the first screenshot
  • Instead of adding them as separate voxels make a radial menu (second screenshot) with voxel shape attached to item stack (that menu can include stairs, slabs and fences too since they are just shapes of normal voxels)
    In that scenario merging two stacks will just merge them by material ignoring their shape (for simplicity).
    With such system building any complex thing will be very easy. I know at least one game that implements similar thing (Rising World) and it goes even further, but radial menu for voxel shapes can be a really good start, especially for builders. And it will free a lot of space in creative menu 🙂
    That thing also completely solves the problem of smart walls since you will be able to chose wall directly and combine it with any set of corners and panels

* The same thing can be used for some objects with different shapes, like plant pots
** Voxels without any variants will just not open this menu and stay individual

Just a note that there were some previous suggestions about different shapes, but that one is more generalized (instead of single shape it suggests multiple variants with ability to swap them on the fly for builders)
