I think it would affect the balance of the game positively if cards were drawn before scoring rather than after scoring.

Held in hand effects are crucial in higher stakes, especially gold cards, smaller hands leave more cards held in hand and can benefit from this even more than a straight or flush.

This change would even the playing ground, taking away an unique advantage of smaller hands while buffing bigger hands, it makes the game more fun because now you have a wider avenue of ways you can use your cards when playing 5 or 4 card hands while not being something so strong that it would upset the difficulty of the game.

While yes, that’s a fair point, the flip side is that it like lowkey removes a lot of the risk-reward that exists in game rn

Like currently you have to consider if you wanna fish for your gold and blue seals and whatever else or just focus on scoring

This would massively buff the player at the cost of, in my opinion, greatly dulling part of the gameplay

i think while all of the points you mentioned are true a lot of the gameplay of balatro is about tricky decisions and its not really like that when you can just pray for your steel cards or something and probably roll a few

Yeah, which is why I'm wondering how this would play out, I don't think it would be that influential honestly but I'd like to see it in action
