#"changes every round" rewording

I don’t see why it needs to be changed to something wordier
It’s fine as is; even if someone doesn’t read it write the first time, one quickly picks up on it
if anything you just add "regardless of deck" to ancient to differentiate the only exception
Ancient is the only joker that does this, right?
This should be a specific tooltip for ancient
The problem is that it's more wordy to describe Ancient Joker as "entirely randomly and not based on deck" than it is to say that Idol or Castle or whatnot are "selected from deck"--especially as it'd be confusing to players who haven't figured out that it is based on one's deck (which, to be fair, how are you supposed to figure that out? assume you don't know Idol picks from your deck. if you have Idol, you won't try to heavily deckfix, because now the selection of cards idol can actually hit is much less--and if you already are deckfixed, even if you see idol on the card you're fixed for, you won't take it because you know it'll just swap to something else afterward--no point selling one of your precious jokers to score high for one round if it means you'll lose the next)
The default is that it picks from your deck
I think ancient deserves an example or a tip or something
Yeah, but that's not obvious at all to new players
You shouldn't have to look on the wiki or discord to understand the game's mechanics and strategies
The mechanics of Jokers like Idol are set up in such a way that they hide their own mechanics
You would never set up the conditions to figure out how Idol actually works if you're playing to win and you don't know how it works
Why would you intentionally make some cards Idol could land on inaccessible?
Why would you pick a Joker that, most of the time, will just land on a card outside your fixed deck?
...well, because it doesn't do either of those things. But the only way to find that out is if you put yourself in one of those situations intentionally, which seems outwardly like a very bad decision
Especially if you are familiar with how Ancient Joker works, given that Ancient Joker and Idol (at least to me) seem like they should be similar
but actually require entirely different strategies in deckfixing
In fact, you might not even take Idol if you don't understand its actual behavior, because selecting a completely random rank and suit would make it a terrible Joker
True
So there isn't even a chance for a new player to remark, "Hmm, I have a lot of [rank/suit] and it keeps choosing [rank/suit], I wonder if it picks from my deck"
Castle, Rebate, etc. wouldn't be quite as bad if they selected randomly, but it would still be pretty hard to come to the conclusion on your own
Also yeah I agree, it's insane that Ancient has the same kind of description as the other "change every round" Jokers yet works completely differently
Oh shit my bad I was misunderstanding both of your points
Damn
And there's probably not much point in making a tip for it either
How did I even learn this?
probably some kinda endless balatro youtube video since idol is frequently used in such cases
you pick up on it but it doesn't come to you naturally
I think ancient should adhere to the suits in your deck by weight
Hmm
That makes it so that every card relating to deck chooses by weight, but it doesn't actually make it any clearer that it's chosen by weight
Not to mention how it would affect the balance
Doesn't that make it just better bloodstone
Yeah but like it wouldn't really offer much gameplay variety
Like yeah I know the rarities are different but like they arnt that mechanically different
The way they are now at least offers different gameplay experiences
Ancient Joker is a weird concept because the only way to actually play to it is to either get a lot of Wild cards or try to increase discards or hand size
Which is cool
