I'm working on a mod where you can merge two suits together into a single card. A flush lover's delight!

Very beneficial if you have jokers with opposing suit requirements. Almost deadly if you don't plan your boss blinds right...
This will have a more in-depth functionality opposed to wild cards, as there will be several new jokers that play along the fact a card can now have up to four suits bundled inside of it!

CardMerge is a content mod created by T3rragon.

This mods adds the ability to merge two playing cards together, to store multiple suits into one card. Cards with merged suits are represented by new suits.

A quick guide on how all the merging works:

A card can be merged with another card, and the new suit will represent the combination of what suits were slotted together.
12 new suits will be added to the game (included the Nones suit, where there are NO suits inside a card, and will be treated as its own seperate suit)

For readability, all new suits include:

I have yet to add merged suits, but when I do, I will have a lot to account for...
What should Strength tarot cards do to cards with more than 1 suit? Should it rank up every rank inside a card?
What should its nomial value be? If you merge two low-rank numbers, should it have the same value as merging two high-rank numbers?

I know the nominal amount should increase for the amount of ranks inside, but I don't know how to make it feel balanced.
Like, if you have a two-ranked card have a nominal of 10, you can just merge a 2 and a 3 together for extra points
If it's less than that face cards lose value

I could just have it be 10 for a two rank, and then have it add 5 for each new rank merged in...
Max is 13, I guess. Cards with 13 ranks max at that, and any other card merged into it will just be included backend.

I don't have any ideas for portraying how many ranks a card has in terms of simple UI

odd/even rank amount is for readability compared next to each other + theres gonna be jokers that score for if a card has an odd amount vs an even amount

keynotes of how i think merged ranks will work

  • merging a rank with another rank of the same value will do nothing
  • there will not be a Flip tarot for ranks, as that's too overpowered
  • using Strength on a merged rank card will increase all ranks inside a card by 1
  • there will be special rank types for certain combinations of numbers (ex. A Hack of Spades will have a 2, 3, 4 & 5 merged inside)

If triggered by a Midas Mask, also gain a gold seal
If retriggered by Sock n Buskin, X1.1 Chips
If triggered by Smiley Face, set it to +20 Mult
If triggered by Scary face, set it to +75 chips
If triggered by Business Card, set it to 1 in 2 chance for $8

If you throw SMODS.Ranks and SMODS.Suits table into pseudorandom_elements, SMODS does run them through respective in_pool before returning the final result (Which is how "spawn random playing card" effects are done)

There's one way I can think of to remedy this but it's gonna be quite jank

#

Hook set_base, and if it detect that it's a merged rank/suit with no component, change it to random rank (using pseudorandom_elements plugged SMODS.Ranks/Suits table so it follows in_pool)

That snippet of Bunco codes in particular are unfortunately weird and outdated, so they are using a different method and thus led some weird edge cases to slip by

Boss blind ideas:

  • 4 that debuffs every card except a pure suit
    (ex. every card is debuffed except spades)

  • Twisted Idol

  • Played hand must include card containing a [Suit] and a [Rank]
    (ex. A 5 and a Heart)

  • a boss blind that multiplies score requirement if any merged suit card is played

  • 2 boss blinds, which are twisted Odd Todd and Even Steven
    (ex. Debuffs every even numbered card)

4 NEW TAROTS AND 4 NEW SPECTRALS FOR NEXT UPDATE:

  • Gain: Select 2 cards, merge a [Suit] inside of it

  • Add: Select 2 cards, merge a random numbered rank inside of it

  • Promote: Select 2 cards, merge a random face rank inside of it

  • Trade: Regresses 1 card into a random solo rank, gives a chosen enhancement based on removed ranks

  • Release: Select 1 card with merged ranks, destroy it and create a card for every rank contained

  • Gamble: Add a random rank or suit into every card in hand

  • Mitosis: Create 3 copies of 1 selected card with merged ranks/suits. Copies have a chance to lose merged ranks/suits upon creation.

  • Rotary: All suits in hand shift to the left, all ranks in hand shift to the right.

So far the main thing I notice is that the merged ranks don't work for pairs

I think it worked for a straight but it should have been a royal flush and wasn't (this was before I was actively checking things tho)

So here is definitely a bug that isn't related to quantum ranks not being finished, for some reason the merge suit card copies the rank from left card, even though it says its supposed to copy it from right card

#

Anyway, I like the mod but I'll probably check it out once it is more complete
