👾 Developer Edition Jokers + Related Content

As a heads-up, this is an original idea, any resemblances with any given mod's joker or mechanic is a coincidence. Feedback is appreciated!

DEVELOPER MODIFIER 👾

Selling 6 copies of any given joker in a single run unlocks the Developer Edition, which grants the permanent effect of X6 Mult to the Joker affected by it. Obtaining a 7th copy of the same joker will debuff Developer Jokers into a common OR break them, depending on what's more balanced. This can be thematically called "corrupting" your jokers.

After the first granted Developer edition Joker in the shop, there's a 6/100 chance that additional Developer cards will appear in the shop. This gives an instant reward for the effort, along with a broader reward for the long-term run.

There should definitely be some sort of tooltip so new players become aware of the Developer Edition's existence.

RELATED CONTENT 📦

Alternate ways to unlock the Developer modifier may exist without necessarily selling 6 copies of a joker. For instance, a new joker that, when sold, counts as your most sold joker in the run or a new Voucher that lowers the necessary amount of sold copies to unlock Developer. These can be unlocked via achievements related to the Developer modifier.

To avoid the interference of the voucher and joker with other unrelated runs (if preferred), this content can also have per-run requirements, such as previously selling 2 copies of one joker.

POSSIBLE QUESTIONS ❓

How reasonable is it to hunt for Developer?

• In general, atleast for the first time, it's meant to be a challenge (though it may be more practical in Ghost Deck), assuming its heavy risk-reward mechanic, it may be good for seasoned players to try and raise their score even more with unique strategies while remaining entirely optional for players that don't want to tackle its complexity.

How balanced is it?

• I do think it's an interesting concept with a considerable challenge in most seeds. It's just as luck-based as anything in the game, and trying to get it without the correct strategies is no easy task. Therefore I believe the instant X6 Mult reward + 6/100 chance of additional cards is a good, balanced risk-reward mechanic.

What's so unique about this edition, and what is its actual use beyond being a gimmick?

• Firstly, I'd like to say that adding optional challenges within any main run that could either mess or make your run in the case of perfect setup and planning sounds very interesting to me. Also, adding more editions to the game can be tricky, especially when you factor in their actual importance or what they'd do to stand out. Here, (despite having a generous X6 Mult) it's not the actual effects that stand out for uniqueness, but the risky quest you have to go on to actually get it.

What about in-game design language?

• The design language for this modifier & related content can go many ways, the mentioned "corrupting" of the Developer Jokers is a mere suggestion, and I am aware of LocalThunk's likeness to creative liberty, as is the case with most game developers. The name of this modifier can also be changed, as the soul of this suggestion lies in LocalThunk's famous "I thought I'd only sell 6 copies of Balatro" quote, which kind of makes sense with this edition's gimmick—commitment with surprising consequences.

ALTERNATE CONCEPT 🪞

For every 5 copies of a same joker sold, create a 6th copy with the Developer edition, and unlock naturally occurring Developer Jokers at a 6% chance, in the shop - This definitely makes it easier to obtain your first Developer Joker, but can make the initial reward a little less gratifying, especially considering that you've been selling that same joker mercilessly, also sacrificing money.
