Instead lets have it make hearts and diamonds faced down, this way the boss would actually be unique and a decent boss blind

Well, arguably the mark can easily be worse depending on the build. If you depend on face card triggers, the plant is worse, if you depend on hand type and planet scaling, the mark is worse because it makes it difficult to see what hand you are playing.
