So it's just +$20 if you have a free joker slot and $25?
Because I don't see any reason to keep it around if it only gives +10 chips
Yes thats the point
Hermit already basically does the same thing, but it's not a rare joker and it doesn't require a consumable slot
True
It also allows you to hold onto it without the money received from it dropping automatically
I don't think that adjusting the numbers will make this interesting/fun
I think it needs to be reworked
Also I don't see the point of making it give +10 chips, that just seems like unnecessary bloat
Meant to show its bad
That's bad joker design, if a joker is based around money then you don't need to add in other effects
Look at Egg, Golden Joker, Satellite, any other econ joker
trading card
Trading card's most useful use is destroying cards not money. The $3 is like a bonus incase you have a rental joker
I disagree, both the $3 and destroying cards serve a purpose
Especially earlygame, that $3 can be enough to bump you over the interest threshold for example
Wrong reply
Plus I didn't say the $3 wasn't useful. I said it was less useful
That was more directed at them because they provided Trading Card as an example of a useless extra effect
I was disagreeing with the idea that the $3 from trading card is useless filler
Yeah. But a rental trading card isn't much worse because. Rental usually is annoying because it can take you under the interest. But with trading card money it counteracts that perfectly
Fair point
Yeah, the main allure of trading card is obviously for its deck thinning capabilities, but the money can be a helpful side bonus as well
I don't really see +10 chips as much of a helpful side bonus though
It also doesn't really make sense with the theme of the joker (it makes sense for trading card since you're "selling" the card)
Like if trading card didn't have the money it would still be really good. But I think LT thought that only destroying cards was a good effect, so they added $3 on top of that
I think because otherwise it does nothing
Like less than egg nothing
I think the reason LocalThunk added the $3 was because of theming more than anything else
It should increase if you beat the house
Fair point
As in the boss blind?
Yes
Because that's way too conditional and adds even more bloat
It was a joke but okay
Also - $10 is so bad that you should just buy and sell this
Plus this breaks a rules of balatro where
Sell value is 1/2*base cost, rounded half down
I think it would be okay as long as the "sell value is $45" is included in the description (there's already jokers that can alter sell value)
I don't think the concept works though
Like I said up here, I think it just ends up being Hermit but as a Joker
The reason something like Egg or Gift works as a concept is that you can hold onto it for a while and decide whether to cash in or keep growing it, but there isn't really any decision making here; there's no reason to hold on to the Joker because it just deteriorates in value
What happens after 5 hands then
You mean to this Joker? I'm guessing it would self-destruct but idk
-5 sell value goes hard
I think the game only supports a minimum of $1 sell value
No 0 works
Does it? Guess I'm incorrect then nevermind
