#Considering getting into playing with mods (Steam Deck) but got some questions

I’m gradually looking into modding. Now that I’ve beaten every deck on gold stake, and beaten Jokerless, Golden Needle and Cruelty, the only thing I have left is Completionist++ and a couple of the easy / fun challenges.
I’m only playing on the Steam deck though, so I’m not looking for any mods that are overly complicated to the point of requiring a mouse and / or keyboard. For the most part I’m looking for mods that expand more on the vanilla experience. I really like what Codex Arcanum has going for it for instance. It changes things, but not enough to take away from the core Balatro experience. Extra Credit is also tempting, but I’m curious if adding too many jokers will dilute the pool to the point where the Codex Arcanum builds will be much harder / impossible to plan for, as the 8 jokers added would be easily dilluted by the 45 additional ones from Extra Credit.
That latter point also excludes the bigger mods adding 100s of jokers, like paperback, even though it too looks kinda tempting. I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the new enhancements and point scoring effects though (The f**k is X-Chips? Isn’t that just +Mult, or am I stupid?) and the Minor Arcana consumables are also very interesting.
I COULD use ‘Glue for Modpacks’ to have more store slots for booster packs, Jokers, consumables + vouchers to make the diluting less severe, but I feel this will likely make the game too easy?
Anyone’s played with multiple mods this way who can tell me how this changes the feel of the game compared to vanilla Balatro?

Not sure if there’s much point in getting into this before the update drops though. I'm assuming I'd lose all progress when the mod breaks, or is it retrieveable once the mod(s) in question are updated to the new version?

If you want an entire new gameplay experience, I would recommend a single huge mod like Maximus or Grab Bag.
However, if you just want some extra stuff without adding too much, I would recommend a couple smaller mods that don't add many new mechanics, like some Joker mods (you can find these on the Wiki).

I'm not looking for a complete overhaul. I like the vanilla experience, but looking to add some things that enhance that and open for some new interesting synergies.
I like Codex Arcanum as it dips its toes into creating new gameplay mechanics just enough to be interesting but not enough to significantly alter the feel. But it seems to be balanced around the idea that you'd 'only' be playing with that one mod.
If someone made an addon that added more jokers that synergized with the alchemy cards, it would solve all the issues I had with it. That way I could add an additional mod like Extra Credit and worry less about joker dillution.

no you get less

it is different though technically

the only real niche of xchips is being able to do good +mult after it but like thats it

I'm getting the impression XChips is just a redundant mechanic that was added to satify people's OCD or something.

If +Mult multiplies Chips by its given number, isn't that exactly what XChips does? The X literally means 'Multiplied by'
I'm not arguing for the sake of arguing, I'm just trying to understand why it's even a thing that more than one modder felt the need to include.

well if you have a flush thats 35 x 4

#

if you do X2 mult you get 35 x 8

#

if you do X2 chips you get 70 x 4

#

and those both equal the same
