Rather than immediately rerolling the boss, it instead allows you to reroll a boss for free similarly to Director’s Cut. You’d be able to hoard a Boss Reroll tag until you really need it then

Would you just click the tag to use?

#

I assume it only would work during the blind selection screen.

I think it’d be the same button that director’s cut has, it holds onto the tag in your inventory until you use it

true carbon
#

that's cleaner

#

Just change the button text from $10 to One Tag

absolutely

placid goblet

would it still count as your director's cut reroll

light mica

Hell naw

radiant bloom
#

if you have DC and Boss Tag i'd want two buttons to decide what to spend

true carbon
#

why?

#

what's the advantage of keeping the tag?

#

a double tag won't copy it.

radiant bloom
#

I'd just like the option (even though 99% of the time, spending the tag is a better choice)

true carbon
#

I'm not sure why it's 99% and not 100%

There could be some niche synergy with smth like Vagabond

true carbon
#

........ fair enough, I can see that.

#

Or you're holding a Wraith

radiant bloom
#

Yeah

#

It's definitely niche but I think it should still be an option

light mica
#

Ehhhh sure? Seems kinda complicated for an option you’d nearly never do

This would also make Double Tagging Reroll Tags actually worth it

as much as I'd like it because it makes the game easier overall I think it doesn't fit the game. This would be the only tag people would always go for, compared to the other tags that are more of a niche thing and not generally good.
It would also make all other options to disable or reroll the boss blind (as well as other tags) way more insignificant.

Is having a reason to skip necessarily a bad thing though? It feels wrong that everyone ignores skips entirely (besides investment ante 1/2) and the occasional rare skip at the end of runs

#

I don’t see how this makes other tags insignificant, at least more than they currently are now. There’s still the same number of tags, you just so happen to want to actually take one now - it’s not some mutually exclusive thing where you can only skip once a run

the skip as it is now has its own niche of being a clutch way out.
your change would make this skip something people would rarely pass up on.
it just makes it drastically more useful compared to the other tags. and that's unfair from a balance standpoint. it doesn't feel vanilla unless you change how every other tag works

I've implemented this in my mod, but I'm still hunting down a few bugs.

If you go that far, might as well make all other tags be used not automatically but manually as well.

true carbon
#

This isn't a small patch despite how it might look. This actually took quite a bit of work to implement.

Moreover, there are some tags that would be far too overpowered to manually apply. Negative for instance. Boss Tag becomes the best tag with this, sure, but I actually think it's not an automatic take. You're given 2 blinds between bosses because it allows you to plan and generate counterplay, and you almost never need to actually hunt for a Luch or something, and skipping is still a big deal.

I implemented this specifically because Katie suggested another joker that generates random tags, and if it generated a boss tag on a large blind then you'd be left at the mercy of RNG with 0 opportunities for counterplay. And I also wanted to add that joker.

However, now that I have the scaffolding in place, further conversions should be much easier.

#

So if there are specific tags that should be able to be held, (useful but not game breaking) let me know. 🙂

Voucher Tag IMO should be holdable

#

Otherwise maybe Top-Up

true carbon
#

Honestly, I think the voucher disappearing behavior in shops should just be fixed.

#

Voucher Tag gives you an additional voucher in the shop that lasts until the end of the ante should be a sufficient buff.

Skip BB, you have the entire next ante.

and end of the ante is when the other vouchers go away, so it makes sense

My point is that it's a bad buff thats largely situational
