Negative money is an intended mechanic, and based on the colour of the background, you just vs'd The Tooth, of which the whole boss mechanic is taking away money.

There is also a joker that allows you, the player, to intentionally drop into the negatives (debt).

how come the negative is before the dollar sign on credit card but after the dollar sign in the displayed money
