I can't help but feel like the SMODS helper is gonna be the way to go here, I think it's just a context issue

I think there's an issue somewhere with the context you're passing in
just for my sake since I'm having a hard time seeing where things line up, could you fix the indentation for all your ifs and fors and stuff
I want to make sure there's nothing weird going on with ends in the wrong places or anything like that
my next suggestion was going to be:
have you tried printing card.ability.extra.other_joker in the if statement at the end to see if the card exists and that if statement is running?
