Birthday Joker - Bit confused on how this works, does it give money when a planet card is used, or does it give money when a leveled up hand scores, or does it earn money at the end of the round for each hand leveled up?
I assume its the second one but its a bit unclear
if it is the second one, it should probably be worded something like "Earn $1 if played hand is level 2 or higher"
Peapod seems strong, Alloy Joker feels very weak and niche for a rare.
Joker file sounds like a lot of fun, its gambling time!
Ms Bones feels insanely powerful, Death is easily one of the best tarots, especially to have in your consumable slots
Collectible Joker could probably just be worded like (and this would change its effect significantly but its much cleaner)

Swedish Joker feels very underpowered, see pre-buff To Do List
Seal of Approval does not need the purple seal debuff, nor does it need to say "instead" anywhere, I think even just having blue seals able to be discarded is weak for a joker slot
like sometimes it'll go crazy but almost always it does very little
for Knight I assume you meant either Kings or Jacks. I'm not sure Kings or Queens need this sort of buff, it may be more interesting to have it be Jacks
Mistletoe is super fun sounding, a lot of risk and reward
Glasses is absolutely busted if you build around it even a little bit, but I do like the idea of having more Ride the Bus type jokers
Atlantis is cool, is it like Castle or Idol?
it works whenever a hand is leveled up in general
so via astronaut, planet cards or whatever other possible means
or even black hole
like if a hand goes from level [number] to [number+1] you get 1$

then it should be worded "Earn $1 WHEN a hand is leveled up"
im fairly confident of the existing balance of everything due to have thought it through for two months, however only playtesting would reveal how good everything is
sorry if I'm being a bit pedantic, I've just been in the Dominion fan content sphere a lot and they care about wording there, wording in card games is very important
problem with jacks is that other than the knight what other major use do jacks have over kings and queens
yeah exactly, jokers should encourage different play styles
well thats what most of the jokers aim to achieve, however coming up with unique jacks was kinda sucky ngl
knight could be jacks but if thats too tedious its back to kings and queens
would still make sense thematically since a jack is a soldier
you could use jacks to level knight up, and then pivot to queens or kings through strength tarots

jack in the base game is underutilized and could see more jokers
i dont have a coder so all this is theory, but in general i believe like 3 extra jack jokers would have to exist for that to work
plus its still a face card and gets bonuses from face card builds
plus ive been taught that a better design philosophy is asking what you want players to do rather than a theme then an effect
like Business Card and Photograph
so a jack joker might take a while to tinker
swedish joker is intended to be an inverse burnt joker in relation to how it progresses
if you have a very much played hand and just waste your hand on a slop hand you'll level up your MOST PLAYED hand
however deck fixing might make that more tedious
keep playing hands and you'll have to eventually pivot, lest you waste a level up
it requires a degree of attention
the main problem is hands like straight flush or four of a kind
likely you can only use swedish joker maybe 3-4 times before having to ditch it, but maybe thats alright
yeah, maybe its fine as is, just know it'll be tougher to use than you might first think
$5 payout for To Do List was a lot of payout, but it was weak
originally the idea was four of a kind as a joke on four eyes but we later realized that if you can consistently play a four of a kind you prob dont need the joker
adding additional gambling to lucky cards and making glass cards reliable opens up much more possibilities imo
also gambling is fucking FUN!!!!
this is a playtesting situation i think.
originally i wanted to do one for gold and red stamps but realized that they are too straightforward to flip around in any capacity
i had an idea that gaining money would give the joker retriggers on gold stamped cards but that might get too busted
like if you have 200€ a gold stamp card retriggers like 10 times
and requires too much setup
0.25x just scales soooo fast, even if it resets every once in a while thats nuts
0.2x 🤷
I'd go with 0.1 honestly, it adds more risk and reward because you really NEED to keep playing pairs cause you built it up too long
otherwise with 0.25 or 0.2 you just get it back online in a few hands

whats important to realize is 2.0x to 3.0x is a bigger step up than 3.0x to 4.0x, which is a bigger step up than 4.0x to 5.0x. So having it give 0.25x is crazy because it gets back to 2.0 in four hands
you actually dont need to think about the joker at all at 0.25
0.1 though it becomes more like a game of jenga
also originally shamrock and mistletoe and glasses were meant to generate tarot cards for making lucky, wild and glass cards
but soon we realized thats too niche
so it was changed to what it is now
personally i like shamrock's gimmick the most
I'm curious, how much balancing and play testing have you done before? doesn't need to be balatro related
none of these jokers have been added ingame so its all theory
i havent done much playtesting outside of balatro besides beta versions of dst updates
well, take my suggestions with a grain of salt, but I've actually done quite a bit of balancing and play testing, for a variety games (all custom content though, nothing official). Just wanted to provide some feedback on where I could see things being potentially under or over tuned

also originally this mod concept had a legendary
however it was cast to hell due to being way too busted
since the mod is named after it maybe it could just be jimbo's aunt or smth who introduces you to the mod
the effect wouldve been granting played cards the ability of every unique card in your hand
so a king can be a lucky 6, a steel jack, a red stamped queen ect at the same time
