5 Decks built to be completely unbalanced (or are they...?)
😈 This is my first mod. As far as I know everything works properly, but the code is admittedly messy and could probably use some streamlining. I'm also probably looking to tweak the balance a fair amount.
😈 The theme is that every deck in this mod provides the player with a powerful up-side at the start of the game, but introduces an equally devastating downside when the Ante 1 Boss Blind is defeated. It's sort of a prank mod, but I also did my best to make the balancing on each deck interesting beyond that.
😈 All the art for this mod was made by me, even the face on the Clueless Deck is a redraw. The code was also made by me, but uses https://discord.com/channels/1116389027176787968/1215417507440107540 as a template and reference.

DECK LIST:
Treasure Deck
- Start with $200 and 2 copies of Temperance.
- After Ante 1, ||immediately advance to Ante 8.||
Chortle Deck
- +2 Joker slots.
- After Ante 1, ||Base Shop Jokers don't appear.||
Clueless Deck
- Start with the Tarot Tycoon voucher and 5 Negative copies of The Fool.
- After Ante 1, ||destroy all unenhanced cards in deck.||
Scourge Deck
- Start with 5 random Common jokers.
- After Ante 1, ||add a Negative Eternal Madness and set Joker sell values to $-10.||
Contrarilogue Deck
- Make a deal with the devil at your own peril.
||- Combines the upsides and downsides of all four other decks in this mod.||

and a whole host of other op stuff
anyway, getting rid of useless cards almost immediately is still more a benefit than a detriment

clueless deck is the one that relies the most on being a prank cuz if u dont know that that's what it's gonna do, u prob won't be able to manipulate it as effectively
so ig the way to balance it for runs where the player knows what it's gonna do after ante 1 is to make it essentially force you to win every ante after 1 in a single hand cuz u run out of cards if u dont

i love flush builds
and what i've noticed is that even without broken jokers and the like
it's easy to grab a random enhancement tarot
slap it on one single suit all the time
then keep buying cards and transmuting them with death or the other suit tarots
so it's still pretty easy to live up until ante 3
while not spending a dollar on deck modding
and buying jokers instead
thats still a fairly involved strategy and on purple stake + with no other mods it'd prob rely on u pulling jupiters and something like an empress or magician
anything's broken on cryptid i reckon lol
the clock and lavender loop killed me so many times

ill set it to only 5 fools and try to grind to gold stake with no other mods and then see how i feel

im also trying to implement something for scourge deck where after the madness appears it changes the sell value of every joker to $-10 for the rest of the run but idk how to code that in
the concept being that ur forced to either use the madness to free up joker slots or take a pretty brutal hit to ur econ

tho i think if you got enough buffer jokers you'd win no matter what
so far, nerfed clueless is still busted clueless

if you dont find hierophant empress or magician within the first 2 shops it's very hard to progress

the reason u start with tarot tycoon is to maximize the odds of finding something good but its hard to roll the shop on ante 1

like, stars don't have a boss blind targeting them

i have yet to try scourge deck on black stake or higher that sounds like a fun time
im currently trying to fix an issue where the trigger that sets all ur sell values to -10 is lagging the game cuz i made it trigger way too often
it’s possible the lag came from my computer just being borked cuz I just had to restart cuz other stuff was lagging too
But I made a new function that hopefully works as intended for scourge deck and doesn’t trigger that much more than it needs to

nvm it crashed when i tried to select a blind
good news:
- i fixed the crash
- it passed the joker buying test
bad news: - it did a little too well on the joker buying test, the sell value change can be activated before the ante 1 boss blind is defeated
- it failed the judgment test

- Clueless Deck now starts with 5 Negative Fools instead of 7.
- Scourge Deck now sets the sell value of all Jokers to $-10 (meaning you have to spend $10 to remove a Joker) when the Ante 1 Boss Blind is defeated, and whenever anything is bought from the shop after that. Expect this to be further refined in future updates.
- Decks no longer have the mod prefix removed from their key (this was a holdover from royal deck).

i think its balanced tho cuz even if u can hit the exact hand u want every single time, this deck essentially turns every single blind into the needle
at least until u scrounge up enough standard packs to build ur deck back up again, and/or magic trick
or you do it like me and just use unstable's +2 and +4 cards to get instant card injections
when i have free time again ima turn the 7 other mods i have downloaded back on and play all my decks on utter chaos mode

so before my hand i move the queen all the way to the left and that solves the flat mult issue

im for sure keeping it like this tho cuz it did take a lot of strategy to survive antes 2 through like 6
'no plant boss' would be peak
new deck idea: start with retcon and money tree but base reward money from all blinds is disabled
the inverse of green deck, you have to rely entirely on interest
get a single good eco joker and the deck downside is nullified
maybe you dont even start with money tree then
swashbuckler and gift card on chortle deck are absolute stonks

Heya! The way you've implemented your mod (specifically https://github.com/nightfreeze9128/DevilsDeckbox/blob/main/index.lua#L99) seems to break plasma deck and also other mods' hooks to Back:trigger_effect
I suggest fixing this by letting your decks have a trigger_effect (or rather calculate in newer smods) method instead of hooking Back:trigger_effect
