did that (installed gamescope and changed my launch options) and now it doesn't launch at all
also tried removing the dll override thing but still doesn't launch

Just check and I'm not sure if gamescope works with the nvidia-open drivers as per the 1.1 section: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Gamescope
Try running the game without any of the perameters before and including the --

Yeah, in my (limited) experience proprietary is still the way to go for gaming on linux.
Also depending on the game, disabling v-sync (or enabling in some cases) can help out as well.
