A Baltro expansion mod I've been developing with my good friend with 30 new (hopefully) original Jokers that try to stick to vanilla standards while also hoping to provide fun takes on already existing mechanics. While most of the Jokers are originally made for the mod, 3 of them are connected to my original webcomics - Space Dogs, Jumpsuit Red and Space Bounty - with even new and fitting textures for face cards featuring more original characters from these comics

As I'm writing this post we are nearing the end of initial development of this mod (currently patching and balancing things before the official release) and we hope to release it soon with a snappy trailer. I can't wait to share what we have been cooking and I hope people will find this fan expansion enjoyable

Thank you, I do hope that maybe I'll be able to patch things and replace/fix some of the sprites in future releases. As of now now we are focused on patching the code and releasing the mod publicly

Thank you! Since you asked, and while I do intend to keep some info hidden for now until we release a trailer or the mod itself (I wanna let people guess a bit or discover stuff themeselves), I'm willing to at least share info on the first 5 Jokers (first row on left pic), which are the simpler ones

Durak - Cards with [suit] give +6 Mult when scored, suit changes every round (Durak also pivots more towards more common suits within your deck)
Supreme Chairman - Scoring [rank]s give +[between 5 to 20] Mult, rank and Mult change every round (SC, like Durak, also pivots towards more common ranks within your deck)
Treasure Hunter - Earn an extra 1$ per remaining hand and discard at the end of round
Game Piece - Gains +1 Mult per remaining hand at the end of round
Grease Monkey - 1 in 3 chance to upgrade the Edition of the Joker to the right when Blind is selected (Doesn't work on Negative Jokers)

ye, originally this was simply an idea I thought I'll never implement. as a matter fo fact this is my first time actually developing anything of this kind
the art took me about a few weeks. I actually produced Durak way back and when I was approached by Flypotato who offered me to help with coding a mod, I locked in to finish the rest

Update: we are done patching the mod before release, which will happen as soon as we have a trailer ready. Hopefully very, VERY soon balatrojoker

Update: work on the trailer is still going as we also want to produce a short remix for it
We've also decided to expand the mod by adding 10 new challenges and make 12 of our Jokers locked, providing more challenge and make the experience more engaging and in line with the vanilla game

Treasure hunt and Game piece
I want to write about this two together, because this, like other mods or suggestion of this kind, have a core problem. Too much dependent on "Good only when your in a good state".

This is for me the first highligth of the mod. Very original. This feels like a higher payoff of Space Joker. A bit of more luck is needed, but it is worth for a Negative joker

I was thinking that X1 mult was exagerated, but I saw it changes hand also when triggered. So literaly you have to play a different hand everytime. I like it. It's like a super Obelisk.

I also want to thank you for your genuine opinion. If you'd like I think we'll be happy to share some of the thought process on the Jokers you felt were less favorable, especially that in testing they proved to be fun
If possible I do implore you to try the mod yourself. Feedback from players can also help us find potential bugs and direct suggestions to balances and patches that we can release in later versions

When designing Treasure Hunter and Game Piece I went with the idea of momentum based Jokers like Bootstrap/Bull, but not necessarily cash based
Treasure Hunter in my mind is like a Green Deck add-on, always passively giving you extra money mostly good as an early pick-up
As for Game Piece, someone in this thread actually described it as a "powerful anti-Green Joker", which I think unintentionally describes well what I was aiming for, imploring you to play big and defeat Blinds fast
And just fun facts in regards to their visual designs, the reason Treasure Hunter has a mustache is because I wanted to base him closer to Wario 🧄 as for Game Piece, it mostly related to what the design implies on the effect, which was an attempt at a play on the phrase "always be two steps ahead" which from my understanding is mostly common in regards to chess

Alley Warrior was always meant to be designed as a "boss buster", but when testing him we changed his iterations a lot, settling on a design that we see as a more favorable early pick up, imploring not skipping Blinds (like an anti-Throwback) and hitting hard when facing Bosses, kind of like a training fighter preparing for a big match. When testing and picking it up early it proved to be a powerful part of my team (at least to me)
Fun fact while at it, originally Alley Warrior was a knight, but then I opted for a Street Fighter pun

When designing Mecha Joker I was taking Steel Joker into account (which you pointed out as well), but I wanted to do a more dynamic spin on the usage of Steel cards, with Steel Joker being more certain but with a linear gain. In testing Mecha Joker proved to gain XMult fast when gaining momentum and aiming for Steel cards, considering it does also react to retriggers and synergies with Mime, and it basically keeps growing if you manage to keep Steel cards in your hand

I'm always weird about new Joker that copy the effect of other Jokers because I think 2 are sufficient. This is wierd because it's useless for Joker that trigger too little, and almost op with Joker with a huge amount of triggers.

I seen so many Joker that give Xmult per $. This is really fresh. But still it's a little bit too strong. Maybe needs from 20$ to 24$(it is also thematic, 24fps)

I don't know. It does too much think and in a weird way. It's Smiley face but better(Not so smiley after this)ans is a deck fixer and scaler, but it worst in doing what other scaler or fixer does

The choices in regards to the balancing were made when testing and finding what works best, so we aren't going to rush to change anything at the moment
Some of the things you said about some of the Jokers did make me think and I appreciate it. Just like with the balancing though, we plan to keep things as they are and wait for player feedback

also did the paladin one, and the one that gives a rank a random effect (that one was SICK it makes me yearn for a "delete this" equivalent from isaac in balatro)

even though i dont work with korczak i do think i found the reason, (yap warning)

extra is a table (which has been set to 20, which is a number and not a table), and the crash also states that it they tried to compare the number 0 to extra (which is a table, and that might be why it crashed)

i tried fixing it myself but im pretty sure that something is setting extra back to 20, i know this cause it still crashed (i had the same issue) and when i added a log (remember, i fixed the extra table back), it said that extra was STILL 20 even though i changed it.

so yeah the codes haunted lol

Hi there! I know we've been very silent for a while but we hope you still enjoy the mod

We noticed a few new game crashing bugs in the new update, especially with X Marks the Joke and the challenges, which we'll fix ASAP

In addition we plan to change a bit the following Jokers:

  • Comic Book: tweak (possibly a buff)
  • Shopkeep: buff
  • Game Piece: rarity tweak
  • Treasure Hunter: complete rework

All will be available in an upcoming V1.2 update
