#Actual non-reported reason for battery drain involving game center dicovered via screen times

So Balatro on the main menu brings up the Apple Game Center UI. Cool right? Except whenever you close the app, it keeps running. I have played Balatro for 25 hours this week, but on Tuesday, it said I played for 24 hours, and ballooned my time far past how much I really played.

What gives?

As it turns out, whenever you have the app closed but not “Swiped up”, screen time continues to increment for both Balatro and Game center, as well as the battery draining (It dropped 60% over night!!!).

“GameOverlayUI” Seems to be what Game Center is called, and I presume that could be the cause of what’s keeping the app running in the background.

To avoid this issue, full close the app every time, and to get an accurate screen time amount, subtract the Game Center time from your Balatro time.

While I’m here, the notch still blocks achievement toasts if you rotate your phone screen after opening the game. Thought I’d mention that since it was allegedly fixed.

I feel like this is a pretty severe bug and could be an important step in regards to fixing battery drain. I’m not sure if anyone has ever figured out the reason (devs included) considering it’s still listed as an issue. I really hope one of them reads this

Uhhhh, this still isn't fixed four months later? I have the same issue on Android. "Played" over 15 hours of Balatro this week. Haven't opened the game once. I couldn't figure out why my battery wasn't lasting as long as it usually did, and now I found out this is why... :/

Unlike you, I did not find a fix other than setting a screentime limit for 0 minutes to prevent it from even running
Update: screen time limit does not work. It still says I've played over an hour and a half of Balatro today despite not opening it once
