#Please, help me understand why exactly my heavily modded Balatro is crushing

don't put so many mods at once
Extra funny reading that from you 🙂
On serious note - I'm gladly update any mod or delete any conflicting mod(s), I just don't get which mod(s) exactly are causing problems
When Balatro crashes during the loading, it is at least puts the name of problematic mod at the highest string on the crash screen. But my Balatro crashes after I play the hand and puts SMODS at highest string, but it is the SteamModded itself, if I delete SMODS - no mods will work at all
You’re using new calc smods with likely old calc mods
Is there a way to know if a mod an "old calc" or "new calc"?
have the same question
Take a look at your mod list and check them in their respective discord thread here. Any complain about old calc/new calc stuff is probably already said there. Alternatively, revisit their github and check for how long ago have they been updated, tho in my case i got ancient mods unupdated since months ago and they work fine, so case by case it is.
What I meant was that you should try to put a few mods in at once, check if they behave, and then do the next batch, etc.
My modpack is tested, not simply piled
Do you have any tips for testing batches of mods? I ask because sometimes mods can crash the game in very specific situations
What do you mean specific situation
like "Having X joker and opening X modded booster pack crashes the game"
I've had crashes on high antes and I can't imagine myself replaying up to that ante while testing mods, so I was wondering if you have a routine specifically for testing
It depends on what the crash/bug looks like
Sometimes the crash log will be very specific about what mod causes it, sometimes it will be very vague
The approach will be different
yeah, I've had really vague log crashes on high antes and it's driven me crazy. I've been sticking to only having recently updated mods installed, so they have a higher likelihood to be compatible with new calc
Did you pinpoint on what exactly caused the crash
Like these
for this case I saw Bunco and MoreFluff in the traceback, but I didn't know about the discord yet (got the mods from awesome-balatro) so I didn't post the crashes here.
Morefluff isn't newcalc ready
thanks for the tip, I didn't know that
is there a thread/place that says which mods are oldcalc and which are newcalc?
You can take a look at my modpack list, it's not every mods, it's not very accurate too, but I will say it's 90%
okay, thank you so much for this!
I started checking GitHubs for how long ago interesting mods were updated and then remembered - I don't even know how long ago SMODS was changed from "old calc" to a "new calc"? Should I only leave the mods updated in january 2025 or december 2024 is OK?
Generally mods that mess with Jokers are the one you need to worry about, but some mods like Pampa has its main source outdated yet a person has gracefully opened up their own branch to bring said mod up to speed
Deck skins, Aura (Animated Joker), Galdur (Stake Management), Less Intrusive Stickers, Custom Blinds and Stakes, are all safe (at least in my experience)
This is the mods i play with, bar Codex Arcanum cause the mod broke again with SMODS update, and Themed Jokers i was not vibing a lot.
