#Lost a part of my progression (iPad + Mac, iCloud, Apple Arcade)

😦 sorry to hear this. We are looking into why cloud saves/syncing isn't working in the most effective way, bear with us!
Just got hit by this when I opened on my Apple TV
iPad save is still there if I open offline (but pretty old) but idk what will happen if/when I go online
Hopefully the old saves aren't entirely gone
I remember a similar issue happening with Dear Reader years ago, but my saves were eventually recoverable 🤞
This just happens to me. I have unlocked the Red and Blue decks on my iPhone, but after I tried to play in on iPad, found the progress was not saved. Then when I go back to my iPhone the progress was lost and synced back to where my iPad progress was.
It had been working perfectly for me and my dad on our iPads and iPhones
However, once I opened the app on Apple TV out of pure curiosity, it crashed once
After I relaunched, it started successfully, and showed a game with minimal progress
After opening the game on my iPhone after that (connected to the internet on because I tend to panic in these cases, good job, me...) it seemed to sync the game to my iPhone and mirrored the same amount of minimal progress
Is there any indication on when it will be fixed? Don’t feel really motivated to play when progress isn’t saved. Would love to know when we could expect a fix? Thanks!
Just went back to 62 jokers unlocked from 115, lost days of progression and deck/stake unlocks…
I lost my progress twice playing between my phone and iPad. Realized it too late both times that was an issue with iCloud saving progress.
Is there a fix for this? Just lost hours of gameplay because of it.
I got hit by this on Android too - only lost two stake unlocks, though
I’ve gone from 25% progress to 19%
I went from 55% to 18% 😦
I've been playing on the iPad since it launched on Apple Arcade, I had made a lot of progress, only 2 decks left to unlock. Today I installed it on my Macbook to try it there, and it opened with 0% progress, I though "weird", and went to check on the iPad and it also is showing 0% progress now. I lost everything 😐 Please tell me you have a way to restore the lost progress, this is nuts!

That’s what I had to do :/ it randomly lost data from just playing on my iPad.

I lost everything at around 70% completion. It’s a huge, game-destroying bug and the devs frame it as “cloud sync not working in the most effective way”. This is like having a furnace model that burns down a bunch of houses and the company that makes it saying “we’re looking into why home heating isn’t working in the most effective way”.
Especially since people have been losing progression on desktop for a few months now and nothing has been said
Losing progress seems to happen to other platforms. And “isn’t working in most effective way” would refer to a problem where it lags or is slow. This is about literally hours or days or weeks of people’s progress wiped out. And it’s not even in the known bug list other than “when iCloud is full” which is not the issue. Why is this not the number one issue?
Yep. As I said earlier, this is like a furnace model burning a bunch of people’s homes down and the manufacturer referring to the problem as “failing to heat homes in the most effective way in some instances”.
This just happened to me - lost a bunch of iPad and iPhone progress because I opened the Apple Arcade version on Mac - which I only opened because I couldn't download the paid version on Mac.
Incredibly frustrated - I hate when games with "seamless" cloud saves do this sort of thing - destroying a player's progress is never acceptable, and now my desire to play any more any time soon is pretty much gone. If a game can't respect my time then I don't fucking have time for it, either.
I'm generally sympathetic to the difficulties of software development, but I struggle with understanding why a save game with an earlier date and less total percentage unlocked would overwrite a save game with a newer date and more unlocked. It's a bad mistake to launch with a bug like that, and even worse that it hasn't been fixed yet.
Honestly I don’t review bomb but I just wrote a one star review to get them to notice. It would be better for players to not have this happen and not buy the game until fixed than have them buy it and then lose everything.
The most infuriating thing for me is their response. Their product is frequently wiping out many hours of time investment for a great number of their players and they’re hardly offering lip service when the response should be “we’re sorry to have wasted so much of your time and this is our top priority”.
imo, best practice is to prompt the player with a choice of timestamped save file. Vampire Survivors has this.

It's an incredibly poor user experience to make a destructive choice without the user's consent
If you don't have full confidence in your automatic syncing logic then you gotta add some manual steps until you figure shit out
Especially in a game with multiple "profiles" seemingly associated with one gamecenter/iOS "profile"...starts to get muddled real quick.
As it is, I'll probably just never play the game again, because I don't trust it anymore. Which stinks, but not as much as putting another few hours into it and not being sure those hours won't also be wasted
But hey, they have my $10, so I guess they won 🤷♂️

I just played on my iPad for the first time today after playing on iPhone exclusively, now I can’t get the progress synced back to the iPhone. I’m done playing until this is fixed
Update: I was able to somehow force my iPhone to get the latest progress from my iPad by changing the name of two profiles and switching back and forth between them a couple times
They acknowledge the bug in “known bug” and about 5 threads about it.
Chill out. It’s one dev and they took some time off. Your Balatro game will be just fine. Play on one device.

But the iPad save is a bit behind where the iPhone save was
And I'm too scared to try it and maybe make things less recoverable, idk 😂
I changed the profile names on the device with the most recent save first. Then switched between profiles on the device with the out of date save
I didn’t actually enter a game on the device with the out of sync save because I wasn’t sure whether that would overwrite
Sean. Did you get a error message about Cloud Sync or what measurement did you use to know where you currently are?
I wanted to give it a go on my Apple TV and I’ve now lost all my progression too 😞
But it’s in a weird half state where jokers etc are unlocked - but just not showing up..?!
Made the same mistake. I started from 0.
I didn’t get an error about cloud sync or anything. I looked at % complete and win count as a measure of which save was further along
Looks like there's an update for improvements to cloud saves
AFAICT, previously lost saves are SOL
Unless somebody else finds otherwise
We cannot recover lost data, it's private data held by the platforms that we don't have access to 😦
Hey I lost all my progress on iPad after opening the app on Apple TV - but after updating today, all my progress is back! 14/15 decks! Praise the sun! (or whatever the equivalent Balatro phrase is)
I uninstalled Balatro after the cloud save issue, but since the patch said it fixed cloud saves, just for fun I re-downloaded Balatro on my phone and it said "Loading cloud save" and then when I started a new run it was the tutorial run 🤡
So to clarify, the chain of events:
- Played Balatro on phone, beat several decks
- Loaded Balatro on iPad, no problem, picked up where I left off
- Loaded Balatro on Mac via Apple Arcade, lost most of my progress, with only the white deck reflecting that I'd beaten it
- Uninstalled the game everywhere
- Saw new patch, re-installed on phone, launched game, saw the "Loading cloud save" message, and now all progress is gone
So I guess that's that.
Although my stats reset - definitely been to ante 11 and scored more than a million in a hand. Playing on Apple Arcade
Same. The “update” didn’t fix anything.

Here's my suggestion- until this bug is fixed, just play on one device. I ended up uninstalling on my phone and mac just so that I won't end up losing progress

I have been playing this on my phone, then tried it on iPad, progress not transferred to iPad, started as a new profile ( not that I can choose). Back to my iPhone and all the progress lost! Devastating!!
Hi can I check: when you opened the app on iPad it didn't give you a choice to import your cloud save at all, just asked you to create a new profile?
Any brave soul can confirm this bug is finally fixed with 1.1.5? I don’t want to risk my saves…
It said loading data from cloud. After loading for a while it started with a new profile automatically. I can still see all my achievements on my account, but all the progress lost.
At this point I'm convinced the "cloud save improvements" actually made things worse
Yeah. Even a manual “upload/download my progress” set of buttons would be better instead of surprising “seamless” behavior
Other arcade apps usually alert you if there’s a conflict and then there’s an option to use the local or iCloud data
I saw they replied to my App Store review telling me the cloud save sync was fixed, but there are literally no details about what was fixed anywhere and there is a 0% chance I’m going to risk my current progress to test for them.
They replied to mine too, they're full of it. That update didn't fix a thing, just check the threads around here
