Ancient joker + checkered deck

I had this combo come up today and ancient kept cycling through clubs and diamonds. Is this expected? I'm guessing it's because the deck is structured like you took all the clubs & diamonds and Death-ed them into their respective ranks in spades and hearts?

Ancient Joker does not care about what your deck looks like, it randomly picks between all four suits every time. You just got very unlucky
