#Always crashing on startup since mid-May

I can no longer launch the game since mid-May. It always crashes back to desktop at the end of the loading bar. I've verified game files via Steam, reinstalled the game, installed it on different physical disks within the same PC, performed a repair installation on Windows, performed a full format and fresh install of both Windows 10 & 11, also attempted installing the game on two other PCs I have available with the exact same crash at the same spot.

My main system is 12900K, 64GB DDR5 @6400, RTX 3080 10GB
(crash happens on NV driver 555.99, 555.85, 552.44, 551.86, 546.33, and 546.29 w/DDU performed between each driver swap)

I've also attempted a few different chipset driver versions, booted into windows with stock JDEC memory speeds/timings, underclocked the CPU & GPU, as well as physically replacing the NVME drives the game has been installed to. Running with elevated admin privileges makes no difference. I've also tried swapping out keyboards, mice. and a pair of USB DACs to rule out device interference.

Attempting to install the game on a second PC (9900K w/1080Ti and 552.44 Driver on Windows 10) and third PC (5600X w/1060 3GB) and it crashes before it even gets to the loading bar.

sounds like one of your profile/settings files got corrupted and cloud save keeps downloading it

Your first step should be to turn off cloud synchronization. Find Balatro in your Steam library and disable the setting under Properties > General

then you'll probably need to delete the profile in question, at least the settings.jkr file

the save directory for Balatro is at %AppData%/Balatro, you're looking for the folder with the number corresponding to your profile

I can't tell more precisely what the issue is without the crash screen though

I've deleted all of those files along with disabling cloud sync previously, but the issue remains. I don't have a crash screen image/info to provide as there is none shown. The game just dumps back to desktop right near the end of the initial loading bar.

Re-enabling steam cloud sync (to restore my previous settings) only changes the game client into windowed mode before it crashes (whereas disabling cloud syn and wiping settings.jkr and the profile folders in the %AppData%/Balatro folder just have the game launch in fullscreen prior to crashing at the same exact point.

After a settings wipe and fresh launch attempt, the game is creating a new profile folder (labeled as '1') with a meta.jkr file placed inside that only contains the line 'meta'

I also had a buddy zip up his save folder (from his known working copy) and attempting to launch the game with it in the place of mine also results in the same crash

not sure if it helps, but my friend loaded my existing save into his PC and the game loaded fine (with my profiles intact and working)

then I logged into my steam account on his PC and the game will not load

install this and send the log file it generates in %AppData%/Balatro/Mods/lovely/log from running the game

then try running a game again and take note of what text shows up by the loading bar before the game closes, and also send me the log file

Maybe bypassing steam will help. Try this file instead of the previous one, make sure it's in a folder inside Mods and named exactly lovely.toml
