I had an ides of a themed run of jokers where the theme is the classes of popular tabletop RPGs like D&D or Pathfinder. Here's a list of effects that I think would be suitable for the corresponding classes

  • Cleric seems really strong, though it may be just slow enough
  • Monk is a strict upgrade from Hack, might need to retool
  • Druid is cute, I like it
  • Paladin is fun as an expressly hand size/high card strat, I want to see cards like this
  • Bard and Fighter may be overly simple, not really compelling the player to make interesting choices
  • Rogue and Barbarian are good with flavorful downsides, though Barbarian you may want to scale it down a little-- less much less downside
  • Wizard is a cool effect, but seems too complex for a common joker

I like these a bunch, just have some issues

Monk I had absolutely no idea what to do, it was a bit shoehorned in, so any suggestions are welcome in thar front.
Fair point on Barbarian, my idea was massive damage at their own expense, but maybe it was a little overtuned.
The reason I made fighter and bard so generic is because when played they tend to be generic. A bard mostly gives passive buffs, and the fighter is consistent and strong. They're the kind of jokers you find and go "huh, cool" and pick them up because they supplement a build, not necessarily to define one

#

Oh and as for wizard maybe change it to uncommon, or possibly even rare, but I really like its effect and I'm not sure how to make it less complex or confusing

Monk could be every other card played in a hand triggers an additional time. So like, card 1, 3, and 5 would trigger an extra time.

#

Wizard should be a rare for sure though.

#

I do think Sorcerer should be reworked though- as is I don't think anyone would ever pick it unless it was negative

#

If you rely on it you will lose, but if you don't rely on it it does nothing pretty much

#

It could be quirky like;

"Sorcerer - Uncommon
1/2 chance for +10 mult. Increase all odds by 1."

Increases the chance of lucky stuff happening and gives some flat mult. In a vacuum it's just +10, but with odds synergies it could pop off (especially when stacked with Oops all Sixes).

Bard I would probably do something involving "buffing your next hand" to get across the support vibe, Fighter makes more sense as the hyper simplistic guy, but an effect that makes poker hands easier might work better thematically? "Your cards also count as the rank 1 above them"

Just some ideas

There's only a few jokers in the game that give flat bonuses with no hoops to jump through, and that's the appeal of editions typically
