the only way i can get the game to launch is by placing the SnoresvilleTurbulentJokers folder into the mod directory (the one that's located within the .zip file on the release page) however when doing so, it leaves the sprites behind

this happened to me when i renamed the mod's folder to put the version on the end of it. keep it as simply "SnoresvilleTurbulentJokers" and see if that fixes it?

@pure forge sorry for the ping but after thinking about it for a moment, i think this behavior is because of this line in your primary .lua file:

what this is doing is requiring that the folder above src must be named exactly the same as the mod id ("SnoresvilleTurbulentJokers"), or it mismatches and can't find [mod id]/src/main.

so if i were to rename the folder to "SnoresvilleTurbulentJokers_1.0" for example, the mod id would also have to be changed to that in order for main to point to a valid path.

i don't have enough (or, well, any) experience in Balatro modding to know how to change this behavior myself, but it's something I thought i would point out.

My assumption is that once smods registers a mod, SMODS.findModByID should point to the folder the mod is in, and not simply Balatro/Mods/MOD_ID

Well the 0.98 api does still technically work if you want to stay that route. Idk why the art broke in only your mod while other 0.98 mods stayed working for the most part

I do believe that versioning mods from releases is more appropriate than versioning mods from commit, even if commits make some mods more up to date, which in that case you can let the user decide either or.

  1. A mod's release version is more deliberate than a commit - the developer(s) decide that a specific version of a mod is ready to be installed and played by others.
  2. Some commits of a mod may be broken, and if people decide to try to get the latest and see that Balatro crashes due to the mod, then they'll just get a bit annoyed and try to roll back the mod. I wouldn't want to have that happen

Hi, Emergence will have issues with mod added suits. You can replace "string.sub(_card.base.suit, 1, 1)" with SMODS.Suits[_card.base.suit].card_key" or look into SMODS change_base function.
