Another steam user who shares the steam deck with me (we also family share the game from my account) has had all of their save data completely overwritten by a copy of my save data. Due to the nature of steam cloud their save data appears to be unrecoverable. I understand this issue can probably be put down more to Proton/Steam Cloud jank, but local backups of saves managed by the game would be a much appreciated workaround. Many games implement something similar because of steam cloud's notorious jank.
#Steam cloud sync caused one steam profile's progress to be overwritten by another's on steam deck

Like I said, I think this specific save issue is down to how the steam deck/Proton specifically manages saves. I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner, but for now I would recommend anyone using a steam deck with multiple steam profiles playing the game to MANUALLY BACKUP YOUR SAVES or automate the process.
assuming your “family share the game from my account” can’t you use the multiple in game save slots(profile 1, 2, 3)?
There is separate save files per steam user which are supposed to be separately managed by steam cloud for each steam user. Family sharing doesn't mean you're playing off the same save.
ah ic
Somehow they just got cross-contaminated in the steam cloud sync. I think the reason this was possible is a lack of sufficient separation of the data at the Deck OS level.
