#A couple of ideas for the UI

I have played the game for about 15 hours now and really enjoyed it a lot! I like roguelikes, but oftentimes I find them not so accessible. This works a lot better here, because the card logic is just so familiar to me already.

I have worked in software development in the past and that's why I always pay attention to what I notice about the UI. I took some notes while playing and will paste them below. I guess a lot of it is my personal preference, but I just want to share them with you, and you can decide which parts you maybe agree with and which you dont. 🙂

Suits & color:

  • I find the blue of club still hard to see, maybe you could add the option to make it green like it some digital poker games? or even better: allow picking custom color for each suit
  • allow adding a custom name for each suit (i would prefer to play english language with german suits. also: there are different regional names for suits in different parts in my country. dont know if other countries have that as well.)
  • add a the suit symbol when it appears in text (like emoji). it happened to me several times that i misread the suit of some cards and made mistakes while playing

Game speed:

  • add an option for 1.5x game speed
  • let me change game speed in main game UI, not only menu
  • game speed increase: separate options for scoring and other animations

Game screen:

  • The "sort hand"-area could be changed to one button instead of two, makes it easier to switch (without moving cursor) // maybe also add a controller bind to it. I used it a lot in the beginning, but then i switched to high contrast cards, which made it less necessary for me
  • button to invert card selection (selected -> deselected, and vice versa), maybe bind to long right click
  • when i manually sort cards in my hand, drawing new cards should add them on the right side, not mix them. only when i press "sort hand" should they get mixed again. the manually sorted cards could have a small dividing space to the newly drawn ones to make it easiert to see.
  • when selecting cards, the left columns shows whether i have a valid poker hand. maybe move this to the middle, right over the cards. thats where my eyes are in that moment. prevents me from making mistakes by accident.
  • card tooltip: at the bottom, add information of how many of this suit and rank are still left in the deck
  • menus like "view deck", "run info" should close with rightclick
  • hover over deck - it would be great to have a visual representation of how many cards left of each rank, instead of the numerical value, as a small bar chart in the table for example, giving a more inutitive idea of card distribution

Cards:

  • cofirmation dialogue when card loses its enhancement. at first i did not understand that enhancement replace each other
  • When I use a planet card, I find it hard to see what is before+after value - maybe you could show all at the same time, instead of over each others: "35 + 15 = 50"
  • "castle" joker should show selected suit on card, without needing to mouseover for tooltip

Menus:

  • allow scrolling of collection with mouse wheel. either pages or layout without pages.
  • options menu is confusing to me. I clicked main menu by accident several times. instead, maybe move "start new run" and "main menu" to the bottom of the window, in different color and shape, similar to "back" button at the button, to separate them better

blinds:

  • for new players (and those with bad concentration like me), who dont pay attention what boss blind they are playing: for every new ante, add an animation, which puts focus on the boss blind and their property
  • inconvenience: when i skip small blind, it takes 2-3 seconds until i can see the mouseover tooltip of big blind tag
