game runs perfectly when i start it from steam directly. but trying to start the app directly while steam is closed gives me the usual black screen on startup, the loading bar appears, but then it just crashes.

(what it should do: open steam and start the game; or open the game without starting steam, in case it is drm-free)

… also, we need a mac tag

In order to avoid piratic behaviors, almost all softwares purchased from Steam cannot be opened directly, which is known as DRM. You can only start them by Steam, with a valid account logged in.

#

This is not supposed to be an issue

I said "almost all"

#

Sorry for my misunderstanding, I tested some games, you're right

#

But start a game directly by double clicking on its binary is actually not recommended, this may cause fault on Steam Cloud Sync etc., you can double click on URL icons created by Steam to start games instead

#

Confirmed on M3 Max, macOS Sonoma 14.3.1. This should be a Steam API related issue

#

Also confirmed on Windows 11 build 23H2. This issue is not macOS platform-specific
