Hitting escape doesn't allow to go to have a continue. It only allow to go back to menu. You mean going back to main menu then continuing the run?

Because the only difference it made once for me was the joker taking more time to sell.

@ionic jetty basically you break a time by going out and back into a run 3 times allowing you to sell jokers early, and if you do it with invis at end of round before cashing out, you can sell it multiple times and keeping it

and if you do it with cards and play them early you can play and discard cards at same time allowing for card duping
