I bought the Balatro soundtrack on release day and for some reason I immediately noticed that the pitch and tempo of the main theme seemed off compared to how it is playing in game.
I recorded the theme in game and compared it to the soundtrack version in the attached file:
Left channel is audio from the game, right channel is the soundtrack release "Main Theme.mp3".

Which of the two is the "correct" one as the composer intended?

the game speeds it up from the raw files

No, the soundtrack is about 3% faster than in game. 70% would be half an octave lower.

we were talking about the audio files the game uses, they are sped up so the audio's shorter and hence a smaller filesize

#

i believe this was done to save space

#

it's possible that the speed-up back to regular speed process was imperfect, hence the game plays the music at a different speed than the original soundtrack

#

if the sped up audio files had to be slowed down by 70% to get the original speed, they must have been sped up by 1/0.7 = ~1.428. Maybe they sped up by 1.4 and so there's a small difference.

((regardless of how the speedup happened, i think the ost should match how it is arranged in game))
