Not a native but I can say I can understand Japanese. I quickly skimmed through the text in the demo and at least for the functional text most of the cards are well translated.
Vagabond currently says "A tarot card is created when a hand with $4 or less is played", which is confusing. (It sounds as if a hand has any monetary value)
I think inserting 「時に」 between 「の」 and 「ハンドが」 could be one choice.
Most of the names and terms are transliterated but some are translated. I'm not sure if that's by intention or by mistake.
Japanese here, most of translation is fine but "セルバリュー" (sell value) is not really familiar to japanese, replacing it with "売値"(literally means sell value in kanji) sounds more convincing
Hi, I'm a native japanese and also fluent in english. Just played through 1 run and there weren't any game/UI breaking bugs. There were some translation errors that I think you should fix when you have the time:
- 「ショップがフォイルジョーカーを持つ」(Shop has foil joker) should be translated to 「ショップにフォイルジョーカーが出現する」(Foil joker appears in shop), as that is more natural in japanese.
- After defeating a blind, translation for 清算 means more like "liquidate". Instead, it could just be translated as キャッシュアウト ("cashout" in katakana) which is used in japanese poker lingo.
- The description for all the card packs in the shop is confusing. I believe the placement of 「まで」 is incorrect. Should be「5枚のトランプから2枚まで選んでデッキに加える」(instead of「5枚までのトランプから2枚を選んでデッキに加える」)
- Description for the coupon tag is wrong. Should be「次のショップで最初のカードとブースターパックが無料になる」
Feel free to ask me for any clarification
I'm from korean translation thread: how did you guys translated the boss blind names?
Hello. Please excuse the machine translation.
A bug exists only when the description of Joker's "To Do List" is translated.
·English
Earn $5 if poker hand is a XXXX.poker hand changes on every payout
·Japanese
ポーカーハンド が $5 だった場合 $5 を得る。ポーカーハンドは払い戻しのたびに変わる
The "XXXX" part is converted to "$5" in the Japanese version, so you can't see the poker hand required to activate the effect.
Hello, I'm a native japanese and not fluent in english.
I found an incorrect translation in the description of Garbage Tag.
In japanese, it says "このターンで使わなかったディスカードにつき$1を与える", but this means "Gives $1 per unused discard this turn".
It should be "このランで使わなかったディスカードにつき$1を与える".
I don't know if this is a japanese-specific thing or not, but sometimes the text box is clipped underneath other windows. You can still understand what the modifier do (even this, this very one is mistranslated), but it cases some annoyances
・Nebula Deck's Explanatory text
・English
~~~~~ -1 consumable slot・Japanese
~~~~~ 消耗スロットでランをスタートする
The "-1" notation has disappeared.

Saw this while watching a Japanese streamer. This isn't feedback or suggestion, just a report that uh...y'all missed a spot. Wouldn't know how that would classify, but if you still want me to use the google doc for this, let me know.
Should we re-submit the suggestions from this thread?
こんにちは。先ほどグーグルフォームから4つの翻訳ミスの修正案を送信しました。メリーアンディ、Todo リスト、ペトログリフバウチャー、パレットバウチャーの説明文です。ご確認、ご対応お願いします。
Hello. I have just submitted four translation correction proposals via Google Forms. They are for the descriptions of Merry Andy, Todo List, Petroglyph Voucher, and Pallet Voucher. Please check and take necessary actions.
Watching a Japanese streamer’s run and noticed that when the Wheel of Fortune tarot card is used and fails to upgrade your jokers, it says いいえ!which I believe is a direct translation of Nope! from English, but this is very unnatural as a native Japanese speaker.
I suggest using 残念!instead because this is the term the Japanese often use when you fail to get something you want in situations like lucky draws, which is kinda similar to the situation the Wheel of Fortune mechanic is supposed to simulate.
Native Japanese here, ive seen quite a lot of people getting confused between different "hands" (blue number hands, hand size, and hand types)
I think "Hand" (size) should be changed to 「手札」, and "Hand" (type) should be 「役」
I cannot post to google form right now, as i haven't taken the screenshots for it, but will do later when possible.
I don't think "hand(type)" can be translated directly into "役". This is because a hand means the entire set of cards played. For example, I think it would be misleading to translate Half Joker's effect as "プレイした役が3枚以下のとき~".
I think it's a good idea to translate "poker hand" as "役". The "poker hand" terms are used in the following Jokers: Supernova, Space Joker, Card Sharp, etc.
For that case カード (card) works better
Yeah I agree. If you need to translate, "カード" works better in that case.
But I also think that the word "ハンド" is not so confusing to Japanese people in the first place.
Some jokers that contain "ポーカーハンド" may seem a little bit confusing though.
I think the issue here is there really isn’t a good word to describe “played cards” in Japanese. 手札 usually means all the cards in your hand (including those you don’t play) and like what you say 役 is the poker hand (scoring hand type). I guess for hand (number of times you can play) you can use “turns” (ターン)…
Also we shouldn’t be fixated by trying to use only 1 word to describe everything because Japanese isn’t really like that. Hand size can be like 手札の最大枚数, number of turns can be like ターン数 etc
A Japanese Youtuber makes video of incorrect Japanese localization. Could I share the link?
Oh is it this one?

Haven’t went through it but looks credible
yes yes
OK I skimmed through the video, and while he does touch some of the mis-translations (or more like missing translations), a lot of them are already touched here and I feel most of the video talks about the hidden rules of the game that are not specifically spelled out
ok
about mythic summit(ミスティックサミット), in natural japanese, "0ディスカードが残っているとき"(now is "0ディスカードが残っていないとき")
also tier 2 paintbrush voucher says "+1 hand size" twice
this would be "アンティ12に到達する"
I think it's better to just put it as "ディスカードが0のとき"
Oh, thanks
Coz saying “残る” when there is zero left is very weird
this tag's text would be "無料のメガ道化師パックを与える"
not nomal pack
Also まで is totally unnecessary here
If anything put the まで after 2枚 since the limit applies to the number of jokers you choose (not the total choices you have from)
Also this is a style choice, but I think ジョーカー is more used than 道化師 for jokers in this context but I guess the latter takes less space.
「与える」っていう言葉に違和感があって「得る」のほうがわかりやすいと思うのですが、どう思います?報告するべきか微妙なレベルですが。(Should I speak English here?)
e.g.
I think 獲得 is better here compared to 得る
Oh and yeah speak English if you can
looks like his name is caNIo, but it is written カイーノ (caINo) in Japanese.
is that true?
I think it should be カニオ.
@hot stump Hi, I made a spreadsheet about Japanese translation suggestions for 9 Jokers and 1 Voucher.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vR2pKTtNJO8EhRJb-QX_IOUarITaA78SaFV_y-eX3ZTSx2kOk4LmVAeJ6zJDL1pdEXv9lH-suE6cCPi/pubhtml
I think for Steel Joker and Egg 追加 is better than 得る given that they "add on" when they gain
Then for Baron and Baseball Card, drop the 与える altogether is better (to show it's exponential)
For Baseball, 「アンコモンジョーカー1枚につき倍率 x1.5」(same wording as Baron)
I agree about Egg. 追加 seems better for Egg.
About Steel Joker, the multiplier should be recalculated every second. I thinks "~につき" is tricky, which means "times". I think for Steel Joker, 持つ is the best choice.
Because I don't know how Baseball Card works in detail, I am not sure which option is best.😖
For Steel Joker, the addition is x1 + (x0.25 × No. of Steel Cards) so if you have 4 cards, it's x1 + (x0.25 × 4) = x2.
Hence this should work: このジョーカーはフルデッキ内のスチールカード1枚につき、倍率 x0.25 を追加
(Note that unlike Baron/Baseball Card, the calculation is only done once (not per card) so this is correct I think)
It works like Baron, so if you have 1 Uncommon Joker then it's x1.5 to multiplier, if you have 2 Uncommon Jokers then it's (x1.5)^2 = x2.25 to multiplier... etc.
Hence these two jokers can have similar wording and hence I suggest dropping the 与える because it seems to imply addition rather than multiplication.
I don't know if this has been reported yet, but the Japanese description for the To Do List displays as "When the Poker hand is $5, gain $5" and does not actually show the Poker Hand that is required to gain $5.
It is now fixed
On the description of tags that do something times the number of times you skipped a blind, it says "最高" (max) instead of "現在" (currently). Max/currently are correct in the Joker descriptions.
Seems not, languages with CJK characters are all experincing the same problem on xbox
this aint right, submitted a report in the google docs
Weird thing to mess up. They are variables, but they accidentally used the same variable twice

ectoplasm does not seem to show the scaling hand size reduction. i had taken an ecto, saw another, and it still says ハンドサイズ-1 (hand size -1)
unsure if this has been reported yet
m aware the localization project was called off. but im unsure where else to put this
The Japanese translation of Canio, 'カイーノ', keeps the early typo 'caino'. The common Japanese translation for this character should be "カニオ" (source: Wikipedia)
as a speaker of japanese i feel like 99% of jokers, vouchers, and consumable cards are just katakana transliterations from english and it kinda irks me lmao
Well it's ok for some word like Egg joker being what it is, but some really shouldn't be katakana, I agree
Actually "雲" (くも/kumo, "cloud") can be a pun on 9 (く/ku) in Japanese. It would be interesting to translate Cloud 9 as "9もの上" (literally "above the clouds").
