Just opened the Wix App Market and honestly? Not a great sign for the health of the marketplace or its future in the Wix ecosystem.
I understand custom solutions are being positioned as the path forward. But let's be real — most DIY users are not going to spend days building a custom dashboard when ready-made solutions already exist. That's the whole point of a marketplace.
What frustrates me most is that AI is being used to replace partners instead of empowering them. That's a missed opportunity at best, and a slap in the face to the developers who built this ecosystem at worst.
The potential is right there:
- AI that recommends apps based on what a user is actually website.
- AI that installs and configures those apps automatically, instead of letting users burn millions of tokens reinventing wheels that already exist in the App Market.
- Wix app suggestions baked right into Base44 as native extensions.
This could be a genuine win-win. Instead, it feels like partners are being sidelined.
Wix built something great in part because of its developers, partners and app ecosystem. It would be a shame to quietly dismantle it in the name of innovation.
