#About audio data retention policy

I would like to inquire about Deepgram's policy regarding the retention of audio data submitted for transcription via API calls. Specifically, I am interested in understanding whether the audio data is immediately discarded after transcription, or if it is retained for future improvements to the model or for data analysis purposes.

If the data is retained, could you specify the duration of its storage? According to the information available at this link: https://help.deepgram.com/hc/en-us/articles/6126293557399-Data-Security-Privacy-FAQ#:~:text=Deepgram holds audio data for,of our machine learning algorithms.
it appears that Deepgram stores audio data indefinitely.

Additionally, I am curious to know if Deepgram offers any contractual options for opting out of audio data storage. For example, Google's Speech-to-Text service provides an optional data logging feature, where clients can choose not to have their data logged in exchange for a reduction in costs. Does Deepgram offer a similar option?

Thanks for asking your question. Please be sure to reply with as much detail as possible so we can assist you efficiently. Such as:

  • Provide the request_id if you've a question about a transcription response.
  • The options you used or the api.deepgram.com URL you sent your request to, including parameters.
  • Any code snippets you can include.
  • Any audio you can include, or if you can't share it here please email it to us at [email protected] and provide a link to this thread.

We do store the audio for model training, though I'm aware Google has an option with higher rates to turn data logging off, I personally like that idea too, but Deepgram doesn't have plans at the moment for that kind of plan. Though it's always reasonable to talk to sales about those kinds of things!

Hi, sorry to latch onto the end of this, do you know if it would be possible to contact someone about not storing data on a particular key? if so, do you know who I should contact? I am not currently at the stage of large enough usage to contact sales for a big order, but for my use-case confidentiality is a problem and identifying user information is often used.
