Hi everyone. After reading about the game crashing on Kijimi (because I had experienced it myself) I ran an experiment.
I have 2 near identical PCs, built within a few months of each other. One is a gaming PC my kids got for Christmas, the other is my PC I use for general purposes, and video editing.
Specs:
Kids PC
R7 5700x
RX 6800 (xfx swift 319)
32gb DDR 4
Win11 24h2
My PC
R7 7700
RX 7800 xt (xfx swift 210)
32gb DDR 5
Win11 24h2
Both PCs had their windows installed from the same installation media.
When my daughter was playing Outlaws and got to Kijimi, it started crashing. I had read about a bunch of possible issues, though few described the same crash I was experiencing. I tried troubleshooting, nothing was working. I decided to install it on my other PC, and it ran fine without issues.
Then I started reading on others with the RX 6800 having the same crash as us. Not a crash to desktop or a hard reboot, but a black screen. The computer STILL running in the background, but a black screen, and no way out but to hard reboot.
To determine if it was indeed the card, I swapped GPUs between systems. I DID NOT uninstall/reinstall drivers. They were both on the same driver version from AMD.
After letting it run for nearly an hour without a crash on my kids PC (now with the RX 7800xt), I tried it on mine (now with the RX 6800). Within 10 minutes, the game crashed to a black screen.
So, now so I can say difinitively, that there is an issue with this specific GPU (RX 6800 xfx swift 319), and Kijimi. I have not had crashes in any other games, or in other places in the game (so far anyway). My son spends hours in Cities Skylines 2, which is notorious for killing GPUs, and has never had a crash.
Has ANYBODY with this GPU (or any Rx 6800) been able to play this game without it crashing on Kijimi?
