#Guides, Checklists, & More Coordination

Hi @exotic sable ,
I hope this is the right place to ask this question, although is more about how wiki can contribute to other pages than contributing to wiki itself...I would like to create free fan website that would (among other things) help players track progress in HKIA. I want to be sure I use Wiki content correctly:
Is it okay to reuse item data/text from the Wiki (under CC BY-SA 4.0)?
Are icons/images free to use too?
What is the proper way to credit them?
I really want to respect the rules while making something helpful for the community, so thanks in advance for the info!
(Also, it might be a good idea to create a wiki page with information for developers of fan projects too.)
Use of game icons/images be something you would need a dev response , as their copyright belongs to Sanrio/Sunblink and not the wiki. Wiki editors often have forgotten to add a template with the licensing info to the file pages, but this is what we should be using for all game assets.
As for fan projects… @autumn nacelle didn't you post some assets for a game fanwork in #i-made-this where Chelsea mentioned something about what Sunblink could/could not allow?
And I think something was mentioned about not being able to whitelist the flower generator if it used game images, too, when you were getting approval for that. 🤔
Hmm, here was the conversation about the fan game.

Wait gimme a sec to read this
To answer your questions!
- Is it okay to reuse item data/text from the Wiki (under CC BY-SA 4.0)?
Any information taken from the wiki or where the wiki was used in any capacity must be credited — usually people do credits as "xyz from the Hello Kitty Island Adventure Wiki" (preferably also a hyperlink to the wiki website's homepage).
- Are icons/images free to use too?
For the most part, no.
Icons are definitely not free to use on any website that isn't officially affiliated with HKIA, Sunblink, or Sanrio. The wiki is allowed to upload and use these icons because it's an official affiliate to the game/Sunblink/Sanrio with their approval. To use icons on your website, you'd need to get approval from Sunblink at the very least.
To give more context, I had originally wanted to use icons from the game for my flower generator website; however, because my website is not officially affliated with Sunblink/HKIA, I was not allowed to do so. Thus, I only have the art I made myself + text only. Additionally, you cannot have any monetary profits from any website you create that's not affiliated with HKIA/Sunblink, if you're using their IP (which in your case, you would be). You also must include a disclaimer saying that your website is not an official affiliate with HKIA or Sunblink.
To add onto what Meeve said ab the file page stuff — most of the icons that were originally uploaded don't have the template with the licensing info, but you should assume that in regards to most of the images... any use that isn't your own personal use is not permitted. I honestly didn't even know that template was a thing until very recently, so now I do my best to not forget when I upload images now.
That being said, any pictures that are taken from in-game, like screenshots of people catching fish for example, can be used — but getting permission/giving credit from the user who uploaded that image is preferred.
- What is the proper way to credit them?
I think it would be up to the user themselves to let you know how they prefer to be credited—but if you can't get into touch with them, you can go with what you think is the best option.
@exotic sable Let me know if I'm missing anything ❤️
Also, I like the idea of creating an informational page on the wiki ab this stuff — that's a great idea!
I think that's pretty through! The TOS Sunblink has on their site (https://www.sunblink.com/) does give the usual limits on derivative works, but it really would be best to get a statement from the devs if possible.
@exotic sable this is a good time for me to say i wanted to change our licensing actually lol
to CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 - in additional to the prior guidelines it limits usage to non commercial purposes
Sounds good to me!
^ Same! @bronze tinsel
(ill have to see if its possible but will poke around)
Thanks everyone for your responses, this definitely gave me more clarity about what to do/what not to do.
What would you suggest as best place for contacting the devs about some more details? #i-made-this ?
I would say via ModMail or Sunblink's support email!
(You'd probably get a faster response through ModMail).

I see the new Fish Almanacs have been added to the table on the wiki. Unless someone else is doing it, I will tackle filling in the missing info on the table this weekend and also adding them to the maps.
