Have you checked the forum and wiki to ensure your issue hasn't been resolved? (Y/N): Yes

What launcher are you using? (Curseforge, ATLauncher, Prism Launcher...): Curseforge

Which modpack are you using? (BCG+, BCG+NC, BCGHG): BCG+

Have you modified the pack in any way? (i.e. Adding or removing mods): No modifications

What version of the modpack are you using? (1.1.16HF, 1.1.15, 1.1.14...): 2.6.1

What version of the Java runtime are you using? (Java 17, 18, 21...): JDK 22

Have you allocated 6GB of RAM or higher? (Y/N): Yes

If playing with others, what method is being used to host/join the server? (Official server support can be found here: https://discord.gg/playcdu): Self-hosted server (hopfully)

If playing with others, have you confirmed that both the client and server are running the exact same version of the pack (including any HF releases)? (Y/N): N

Describe the issue: I get an error from trying to connect to a server I am hosting through localhost and I keep getting the error:

Connection Lost
Internal Exception: io.netty.handler.codec.DecoderException: io.netty.handler.codec.EncoderException: java.io.IOException: Root tag must be a named compound tag

then when i try connecting through the IP address I get the owo handshake failure

I checked the wiki and I realized there must be a mismatch of files between the client and the server files but I do not know where I should look for these files

Steps you've taken in effort to resolve this issue:
-Uninstalled and installed the serverfiles again and again
-dragged the mods in the client folder into the server folder
-downloaded the override files and dragged into the server folder

Your server is running as vanilla. Make sure you are launching the fabric jar.
