Ran out of air and had not unlocked the door at the bottom of the elevator (in upper area pre-crawler), tried taking it up to the hab above, and the timer ran out during the black load screen. Faded in and I was laying on the ground, then respawned in bed. when I went back, the death crate was on the tall formation a ways from the cliff, see screenshot
