Every time I change my target to a team member to heal them my pet comes back to me. If I have to keep healing he will just stand there unless I attack a mob.

i think its an assist issue, i'd bet your arcanist is dazzling the active target once you're not targeting it
i've seen that happen a few times
keep an eye on chat and see if they cast dazzle when you see it happen

ok, it is happening because they are casting coma and dazzle every time I target a sim to heal.
If I stay on the target they will never cast those spells
