Rift water beast stat recquirements

So ?rift-stats tells me to get +15k hp and 1200def and low cr. Same thing with mav. Is there a reason why def is more important here? Because the usual approach to defensive stats was ehp in gb12 for example. Like it didnt matter if you had more defense or hp as long as you hit 80kehp you were good. Same thing with low crit rate why do you want low crite rate.

The boss's attack that attacks exclusively the front row does more damage the lower your defense is
So having higher def mitigates that damage by quite a bit
