1. Requirements for every run

No matter which run you do, you're required to:

  • Go through Ashina Outskirts, Ashina Castle, Sunken Valley, Ashina Depths, Mibu Village, and Ashina Castle after it's reinvaded.

  • Obtain the Mortal Blade, Shelter Stone and Lotus of the Palace

  • There are 12 bosses required to be defeated in order to achieve any ending. These are:

Chained Ogre
Gyoubou Masataka Oniwa
Blazing Bull
Genichiro Ashina
Armoured Warrior
Folding Screen Monkeys
Long Arm Centipede Giraffe
Guardian Ape
Snake Eyes Shirahagi
Headless ape (Depending on if you go to Sunken Valley before Mibu Village)
Mist Noble
Illusion Monk

After recieving the last item on your shopping list (Mortal Blade/Shelter Stone/Lotus), You will have to travel all the way back up to Ashina Castle, where you initially fought Genichiro. This is where paths to the endings split.

2. Immortal Severance ending

For 3 of the 4 endings required, upon meeting Owl at the top of Ashina Castle, where you fought Genichiro Ashina, You have an option to "Obey the Iron Code and Forsake Kuro", or to Deny the Iron Code, and Stay loyal to Kuro.

For new players, I highly reccomend you DO NOT select the former option. This will end your playthrough prematurely.

Denying the Iron Code and staying loyal to Kuro will allow you to progress until the end of the story.

  1. Defeat Great Shinobi Owl at the top of Ashina Castle
  2. Talk to Kuro after defeating him in his room, burning the incense, and going through the story dialogue.
  3. Travel back to where you collected the Shelter Stone, Rest at the Palanquin, and be transported to fountainhead palace.
  4. Defeat the True Monk, and proceed through fountainhead palace. A walkthrough of Fountainhead Palace can be found Here
  5. Defeat the Divine Dragon, and collect their tears.
  6. You will be transported back into Kuro's room, where Ashina Castle is now under full siege. Talk to Emma and Receive the Key needed for the secret exit.
  7. You will need to make your way through Ashina castle, following smoke signals left by nightjar ninjas, until you eventually make it to Ashina Resovoir, where you began the game. Make your way back to the secret exit.
  8. Defeat Genichiro, Way of Tomoe, and Isshin the Sword Saint.
  9. After Isshin the Sword Saint, Kneel by Kuro and Select to give Kuro ONLY the Divine Dragons Tears.

3. Purification Ending

This ending requires getting a key item.

Prerequisites:

In order to first achieve this ending, you must complete Hirata Estate for the first time.

This involves:

  1. After the first general encountered after the prologue (At Outskirts Wall Gate Path), travel to the bottom of the hill, until you see an old woman in a broken home. Talk to her and receive the Young Lord's Bell Charm.
  2. Take this to the sculptor, and then at the left of his shack is a Buddha statue. Pray to the Buddha to be transported to Hirata Estate.
  3. Make your way through Hirata Estate, Defeating the Shinobi Hunter along the way, before reaching the burning courtyard.
  4. Talk to the dying owl, who will give you a key for progressing later in Hirata.
  5. Continue onwards through the grapple to your left, and keep travelling through Hirata, until you reach Hirata Estate - Main Hall.
  6. Defeat Juzou the Drunkard. There is an NPC (Nogami Gensai) Standing by a rock in the pond area, who can be used as a distraction and as help.
  7. Go through the building, until you reach the idol. Follow the bridge, and go down the steps, and use the key Owl Gave you to open the door.
  8. Defeat Lady Butterfly.

It's reccomended that, Regardless of whatever ending you pick, that you make this trip through Hirata Estate, as it contains the tools required to create the Flame Barrel, Loaded Axe, and Mist Raven, as well as a memory, an extra revive node, and two prayer beads.

Purification Ending Steps:

  1. After Defeating Great Shinobi Owl, head downstairs and talk to Kuro and Emma as normal, until you exhaust both their dialogues. Burn the incense. Go behind the Incense burner, and hug the wall. Crouch and Eavesdrop on Kuro. (Kuro must be standing by the incense burner. If he is not, rest at the idol until he is.)
  2. Go upstairs, and rest at the Idol where you just defeated Great Shinobi Owl. Emma will be there after you rest. Exhaust her dialogue and agree to keep Kuro alive.
  3. Rest again, and then talk to Emma, who will give you Tomoe's Note.
  4. Travel to the Old Grave Idol, and go left from it, and then talk to Emma until you exhaust her dialogue.5. Go to the dilapidated temple, and go around the back and crouch at the hole in the wall, and eavesdrop. Talk to emma, and ask about what you overheard. Ask again what she is hiding, and then progress dialogue until you get the "Father's Bell Charm".
  5. Pray at the Buddha you used to enter Hirata Initially, and you'll be transported back to Hirata, this time at the gate where you found Owl Dying.
  6. Go through Hirata Again, defeating the Lone Shadow (Not required) and Juzou the Drunkard (Required) again.
  7. Where Lady Butterfly was, Owl (Father) will be. Talk to him, and defeat him. Owl (Father) drops the Aromatic Flower.
  8. Progress through the rest of the game as normal, until you get the option to kneel by Kuro. Give Kuro the Flower and the Tears.
