Usually it would let me do this but all of a sudden it’s just put me on this new version which is simply not as smooth and efficient as the original and all my files and hard work is corrupted

I'm really sorry but I'm afraid you can't go back to the previous version. And even if that were possible it will eventually be shut down anyway. Whilst I understand the sadness and frustration of losing work going forward the new version is all that we have.
Can you explain more about how your files have been corrupted? What app are you using: for desktop, for mobile phone iPhone or Android, or iPad?
